HBO just dropped a trailer for Mountainhead, the new film from Succession creator Jesse Armstrong, which hits HBO and Max on May 31st.
While Succession skewered the media, Mountainhead has its sights on big tech. Steve Carell, Cory Michael Smith, Ramy Youssef, and Jason Schwartzman play Silicon Valley billionaires holed up in a mountain retreat while the outside world works through some crises, and I’m guessing they’ll have one or two of their own.
A new mode lets the xAI chatbot “see” what’s on your screen or in your camera, though only on iOS for now. Grok’s also been upgraded to support voice chats in a range of languages beyond English, with realtime search by voice too. It’s all a bit Gemini Live, with Elon Musk’s AI steadily closing the gap on the competition.
The semiconductor giant reported a 60 percent jump in Q1 profits, to NTD$361.56 billion (USD$10.9 billion), and is sticking with its forecast for 2025 revenue growth. Chairman and CEO C.C. Wei says there’s been “no changes” in demand following Trump’s tariffs, with chips next in the president’s crosshairs.
That doesn’t mean it’s ignoring the tariffs entirely though — they’re partly to thank for new efforts to accelerate the launch of its two upcoming US chip plants.

Apologies to the three people out there nostalgic for Acer phones — the new Super ZX and Super ZX Pro handsets announced in India today are made under license by Indkal Technologies, meaning Acer itself has almost nothing to do with them. The same is true for last month’s two budget Acerpure models.
The last true Acer phone was 2016’s Android 6-powered Liquid Z6 Plus, which boasted a 13-megapixel camera and 32GB of storage.
Emphasis on “might.” Leaker billbil-kun, who previously tipped April 23rd preorders for Canada, says US retailers could begin taking orders from either April 21st or April 30th.
Nintendo delayed preorders in both countries in the wake of Trump’s tariffs, and despite recent speculation still hasn’t confirmed when it will be ready to take your money.
Google’s excellent Pixel 9A is suffering from an early bug, but luckily it’s a minor one. The selfie camera’s viewfinder has an unwelcome flicker in dark scenes, as if it’s struggling to find the right exposure — something I’ve spotted on my own 9A. The good news is that photos themselves are unaffected.
While Android Authority reports that rolling back Camera app updates fixes it, that didn’t work for me.
