    April Fools’ 2025: “Beautifully inconvenient.”

That’s how Nothing describes its April Fools’ launch this year, the Ear 3.5mm. They’re earbuds that look a lot like last year’s Nothing Ear Open, but come with a handy 50m (164 ft) cable so you can enjoy wired audio quality without giving up the range of Bluetooth.

Nothing hasn’t announced a price, so it seems a safe bet this is the sort of April Fools’ joke you can’t actually buy.

TM moves from MX to DX.

Samsung has temporarily shuffled its leadership team following the death of co-CEO Jong-Hee Han, while it hunts for a long-term replacement. TM Roh, who’s headed up the company’s Mobile Experience (MX) division since 2020, becomes acting head of Device Experience (DX), which covers mobile but also TVs, home appliances, and more.

Roh has overseen a period in which Samsung has lost mobile marketshare and produced increasingly iterative devices, so his promotion may not prove popular.

Google opens Play Store billing options in the UK.

So-called “User Choice Billing” — which allows app developers to offer users payment providers other than Google Play for purchases — will be available to British users from March 29th, starting with non-gaming apps. The option is already available to users in the US, Europe, and a handful of other countries.

It saves devs from a four percent payment processing fee, though the real saving will be lower since other payment processors charge fees too.

Instagram’s new fast-forward feature works just like TikTok’s.

You can now skip ahead in Reels by holding down on either edge of the screen, which plays the video at double speed. Reels started out with a 15-second cap but can now run for up to three minutes, so playback controls make sense.

TikTok thought the same thing when it added a fast-forward feature, which you enable by... holding down on either edge of the screen. What a coincidence!
