I’ll keep a dumb home, thanks.

Amazon’s iRobot has been recording its customers, including on the toilet:

iRobot—the world’s largest vendor of robotic vacuums, which Amazon recently acquired for $1.7 billion in a pending deal—confirmed that these images were captured by its Roombas in 2020. All of them came from “special development robots with hardware and software modifications that are not and never were present on iRobot consumer products for purchase,” the company said in a statement. They were given to “paid collectors and employees” who signed written agreements acknowledging that they were sending data streams, including video, back to the company for training purposes.

Anyway, those videos were then posted to Facebook by gig workers in Venezuela. Congrats on your luxury surveillance apparatus!

Joke cryptocurrency worth more than actual crypto exchange.

Here’s one explanation as to why:

“Coinbase is tied to the fortunes of the broader crypto markets.” said Michael Safai, partner at crypto trading firm Dexterity Capital. “Dogecoin has no real connection to the macro, but instead is driven almost primarily by headlines and hype, retail investors seem to be hungry for one last pop.”

    Cool industry!

Paul Graham is OUT on Twitter dot com.

Elon Musk’s ban of competing social media platforms — except TikTok, I’m sure there’s a good reason for that besides his Tesla factory in China — seems to be aggravating people. To cite Twitter scripture: Is that good?

On taking psychic damage from Twitter.

Ryan Broderick gets at the core emotional experience of what happened in the chaotic forum drama last night: “The man is jacked directly into the feed and it turns out the feed is screaming back at him, ‘you fucking suck.’”

A pro-tip for our readers: Money can’t buy love. If love’s what you want, be a lover.

In the most Twitter thing imaginable, Twitter’s banned accounts, including ElonJet, are chatting in Spaces.

Drew Harwell, Matt Binder and ElonJet, all banned from Twitter, were nonetheless hanging out in a Twitter Space. Perfect website.

Ryan Salame sang like a canary.

Salame, FTX’s former co-CEO, warned Bahamian regulators on Nov. 9 that FTX transferred funds to Alameda Research to “cover financial losses,” according to court filings.

The regulators wrote in the filing:

The Commission understood Mr. Salame as advising that the transfer of clients’ assets in this manner was contrary to the normal corporate governance and operations of FTX Digital. Put simply, that such transfers were not allowed and therefore may constitute misappropriation, theft, fraud or some other crime.

Salame named names, too: only Sam Bankman-Fried, Nishad Singh, and Gary Wang could have done it. FTX filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 11 in the US.

Yesterday, Bankman-Fried was charged with money laundering, wire fraud, securities fraud, commodities fraud, and some assorted conspiracy charges.
