OpenAI is putting its o1 models on Los Alamos Lab’s supercomputer.

After announcing a partnership with OpenAI last year, the US National Laboratory will now install the company’s latest reasoning models on its Nvidia-powered Venado supercomputer “to conduct national security research.”

OpenAI says it will also support the Lab’s nuclear security program, “focused on reducing the risk of nuclear war and securing nuclear materials and weapons worldwide:”

We anticipate that this engagement will lead to broader safety collaborations across a variety of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) risks... we look forward to developing future projects together to support the U.S. government and the mission of ensuring AGI benefits all of humanity.

    Peacock subs haven’t budged.

The streaming service’s subscriber count remains at 36 million — the same as last quarter, according to Comcast’s earnings report released today. Peacock has only added around 5 million subscribers since January of last year, representing a small fraction of the 19 million that signed up to Netflix over the course of just a few months.

Disclosure: Comcast is an investor in Vox Media, The Verge’s parent company.

Someone might be squatting on DeepSeek’s trademark.

Just days before DeepSeek filed an application with the US Patent and Trademark Office for its name, a company called Delson Group swooped in and filed one before it, as reported by TechCrunch. The outlet found that Delson Group’s owner has a “history of trademark squatting,” which could prove inconvenient for DeepSeek.

But like my colleague Sarah Jeong writes, just because someone files for a trademark doesn’t mean they’ll actually get it.
