Proton Pass is now available as a Windows app.

Proton’s end-to-encrypted password manager launched last year — but only on the web, Android, and iOS. This new Windows app lets you access your passwords offline (as long as you have a Proton Pass Plus or Unlimited subscription). It also keeps passwords protected with the Argon2 hashing algorithm.

Proton is planning to launch its password manager on macOS and Linux later this year.

Mastodon is making it a lot easier to share your profile.

Mastodon’s Android app will now let you share your profile using QR codes, which sounds a heck of a lot easier than telling someone your username and the instance you’re on.

To find your QR code, head to your profile and select the QR code icon next to your name. From there, someone else can scan the QR code and jump directly to your Mastodon profile. You can learn more about the feature from Mastodon’s blog.

Paramount is for “true sports fans,” says CEO Bob Bakish.

During an earnings call on Wednesday, Bakish argued that the upcoming live sports streaming service from WBD, ESPN, and Fox “only has a subset of sports:”

It’s missing half the NFL, a lot of college, has virtually no soccer, golf, etc. That’s hard to believe that’s ideal, especially at the price points that have been speculated.

Bakish added that Paramount serves “true sports fans” with sports that occur all year round. Paramount Plus, which aired Super Bowl LVIII, has grown to 67.5 million subscribers over the past few months.

Are Apple IDs getting a new name?

Sources tell MacRumors that Apple is testing a rebrand of “Apple ID” to “Apple Account.” The company could reportedly implement the new name later this year alongside the launch of iOS 18 and macOS 15. If true, the new name might take some getting used to.

EA is the latest gaming company to lay off workers.

Just one day after PlayStation laid off 900 employees (which followed layoffs from Activision Blizzard, Riot Games, Discord, Unity, and others), EA announced on Wednesday that it’s cutting 5 percent of workers, which amounts to around 670 roles.

The game publisher also said that it’s “moving away from development of future licensed IP that we do not believe will be successful in our changing industry,” allowing it to focus on its own IP, sports, and online communities.

    LockBit is back to attacking.

US and UK law enforcement disrupted LockBit last week, allowing them to seize the ransomware group’s websites and servers. Despite this effort, LockBit came back online with a new site for data leaks just days later.

But now, Bleeping Computer reports the group is carrying out new attacks with “updated encryptors with ransom notes linking to new servers.” The new servers are only accessible to the victims of LockBit’s latest attacks, Bleeping Computer reports.

Aaron Rodericks, who previously helped lead the trust and safety team at Twitter, will take on the new role at Bluesky. The platform hit 5 million users after it started allowing everyone to sign up earlier this month, and also recently began letting users host their own servers.
