Instacart is testing personalized ads in its smart shopping carts.

The company’s Caper Carts, which automatically detect and tally up the products you put in them, will soon put product recommendations on its built-in display. Instacart says the ads will change based on the aisle you’re in, the items you’ve already added to the cart, and your past purchases.

Instacart is only piloting the ads at Bristol Farms stores in Southern California for now, with more supported stores “rolling out in the months ahead.”
