    Intel’s military defense grant may take a bite out of CHIPS Act funding.

    Intel was awarded a $3.5 billion grant to build chips for the US military as part of a spending bill President Biden signed last weekend, but now the Pentagon no longer wants to foot the bill, according to a report from Bloomberg.

    This could reportedly force the Department of Commerce to dip into CHIPS Act funding to pay Intel, which could come with some consequences, Bloomberg reports:

    The change could mean a greater share of Intel’s Chips Act funds is devoted to military uses, rather than commercial ones... It’s unclear whether the Secure Enclave funding will be swallowed into Intel’s total awards — meaning the company gets less overall money than expected — or come on top of what Intel was already set to receive, leaving less for everyone else.

    Paramount might have another potential suitor.

    Apollo Global Management, a private equity firm that owns the majority of Yahoo, is discussing a takeover or asset purchase with Paramount, according to a report from Axios.

    Rumors about a potential Paramount merger or sale have been swirling for months. Skydance Media is also reportedly in the running to purchase Paramount’s parent company, while Warner Bros. Discovery’s rumored deal is on pause. Meanwhile, reports suggest Comcast is looking into offering a Peacock streaming bundle with Paramount Plus as well.

    Apple just hired away another advertising exec.

    Joseph Cady, who previously served as NBCUniversal’s EVP of advanced advertising and partnerships, has joined Apple, according to a report from Business Insider.

    The company also hired a few other people who worked with video ads at NBCU, Peacock, and FanDuel, Business Insider reports. Apple has been gradually building up its advertising team since last year, suggesting the company could be planning an ad-supported tier for Apple TV Plus.

    There might be a “TikTok Photos” app in the works to take on Instagram.

    TheSpAndroid found code within the TikTok app that suggests it’s working on a photo-sharing platform called “TikTok Photos.” One line of code says, “TikTok Photos will be launched soon,” while others invite users to share their posts on the platform.

    However, it’s still too early to tell whether TikTok is actually planning to launch a photo-sharing app or if this is all just an experiment.

    People have blamed farmers and Benjamin Franklin for the switch, but modern daylight savings time was first proposed in 1895 by George Hudson, an entomologist in New Zealand who wanted to use the extra daylight to collect insects.

    The idea was later promoted in England by William Willett, a builder and golfer, who wrote in 1907 that the extra daylight would offer more time for outdoor activity. Both England and the US started implementing the practice to save energy during World War I.
