For every living human there are 2.5 million ants, say scientists, unprompted.

I honestly don’t know what to do with this information, which comes via The Washington Post. This is just one guy’s opinion, but it seems like an awful lot of ants. Like God accidentally maxed out the ant-slider or spilled a bag of “Oops! All ants!” into the biosphere during Creation. What I need is a lie down and to not think about the millions — sorry, 20 quadrillion — of ants out there.

China’s latest text-to-image AI can’t generate pictures of Tiananmen Square.

MIT Technology Review has a great report on the capabilities of Baidu’s ERNIE-ViLG, an AI art generator like DALL-E. The system is much better than Western models at generating Chinese historical figures and pop culture. But it’s also been censored and can’t generate pictures of Tiananmen Square or political leaders like Xi Jinping and Mao Zedong.

Neither snow nor rain nor active crime scene will stay these robot couriers...

Last-mile delivery robots are still trying to prove their worth, but here’s one apparent advantage: they can enter crime scenes. It’s a bit odd that the police didn’t stop the bot, especially as we don’t know whether a computer or human was driving.
