    Reddit keeps adding daily users.

The company saw Daily Active Uniques (“DAUq”) increase 39 percent year-over-year to 101.7 million, according to its Q4 2024 earnings press release.

A chart in Reddit’s shareholder letter details the growth of the metric quarter-over-quarter, and I’ve included it below.

Google is ‘clarifying’ its Calendar holiday changes.

The company told The Verge last week that it stopped highlighting certain events like Pride and Black History Month and switched to showing public holidays and national observances from timeanddate.com globally in the middle of last year.

Today, Google posted a similar statement to its own blog with slightly revised wording that avoids saying maintaining hundreds of cultural moments globally “wasn’t scalable or sustainable” and highlights the customizable nature of Calendar.

    Dill with it.

Epic is teasing the next season of Fortnite, called “Lawless,” and it seems like the game might get a pickle-themed skin... that will drop its own single? Oh boy. The season launches on February 21st.

More evidence that the Switch 2 may have magnets.

A Japanese Nintendo patent published last week describes, in a machine translation of its claims, a gaming device that seems similar to the Switch 2. The patent’s claims describe a machine that would use magnets to attach the controllers to the console, which has been rumored for the Switch 2:

A gaming machine that is detachable from a controller, the gaming machine comprising: a housing that contains an electronic circuit; and a first magnet that is conductive and that is attracted to the controller by magnetic force, thereby attaching the controller to the gaming machine, the first magnet being electrically connected to the ground of the electronic circuit.

As noted by VGC, the patent also suggests Nintendo has explored letting users attach the Joy-Con controllers upside down to flip the device’s orientation.

The AP was blocked from an executive order signing because of its stance on the Gulf of Mexico.

“It is alarming that the Trump administration would punish AP for its independent journalism,” Associated Press Executive Editor Julie Pace says in a statement. “Limiting our access to the Oval Office based on the content of AP’s speech not only severely impedes the public’s access to independent news, it plainly violates the First Amendment.”

OpenAI apparently hasn’t actually received Elon Musk’s acquisition offer.

Elon Musk offered to buy OpenAI for $97.4 billion on Monday, but according to Wired:

[Sam] Altman has also told employees that OpenAI’s board, which he sits on, has yet to receive an official offer from Musk and the other investors. If and when this happens, the board plans to reject the bid, according to those same sources. Internally, OpenAI employees reacted to the news with a mixture of fear and exasperation.

Mirror, mirror, where will Google I/O fall?

Google has a new game called Prism Shift that you can play to help reveal the date of Google I/O 2025, as spotted by 9to5Google. In the game, you’ll reflect beams of light using mirrors and other tools to solve puzzles. It’s pretty fun! The music is great, too.

Google I/O typically takes place in mid-May, so I’m guessing that will be the case this year, too.
