After Nintendo shut down its Wii U and 3DS online services on Monday, Pretendo — an open-source Nintendo Network substitute — has found a workaround that grants users (limited) access to its own network without custom firmware.
Wii U’s require at least firmware version 5.5.5, and the exploit won’t run everything, such as third-party titles using their own SSL. The video below explains the setup process.
