BBC licence fees may get harder to evade.

British households currently don’t need to pay the £169.50 (about $211) annual charge that funds the public-service broadcaster if they only use streaming apps like Netflix and Amazon Video, but that could soon change.

The UK government is now exploring options to help sustain the struggling BBC according to Bloomberg, including extending the fees to streaming service users and radio listeners, taxing streaming companies, and introducing ads to the public broadcaster.

Google’s last chance to beat $4.2 billion Android fine.

Google has begun its final attempt to overturn a €4.3 billion (about $4.4 billion) fine it received from the EU over its Android market dominance back in 2018. The antitrust decision was upheld in 2022 but reduced to €4.1 billion (about $4.2 billion). A final ruling from Europe’s top court is expected in the coming months and can’t be appealed — making this Google’s last chance to scrap the penalty.

    Waiter! More robots please!

LG has acquired a majority stake in Bear Robotics — an AI-powered service robot startup — to integrate with its own “CLOi” commercial robotics business. LG invested $60 million into the startup for a 21 percent stake last March, but the value of the new deal hasn’t been disclosed.

LG’s Lee Sam-soo says the investment reflects the company’s belief that robots have an “inevitable role in the future.”
