Over half of London’s black cabs are now electric-ish.

Transport for London says that over half the capital’s nearly 14,700 Hackney carriages are now “zero emissions capable.” The most common of these is the London Electric Vehicle Company’s TX taxi, a plug-in hybrid with a pure-electric range of around 80 miles.

Fun fact: London’s first electric taxi was from the 1800s, but the Bersey Electric Cab was sadly withdrawn from service in 1899 due to reliability issues.

Fairphone 5 gets the thumbs up from iFixit, to the surprise of no one.

I’m sure making a phone this repairable is still enormously challenging. But at this point it’s hard to expect anything less than a perfect 10/10 for the Fairphone 5 given its predecessors the Fairphone 2, Fairphone 3, and Fairphone 4 are the only smartphones to have received similarly perfect scores from iFixit. Check out our full review.

Sony’s accessible PlayStation controller goes on sale today.

The Access controller, which is designed to offer a more accommodating way for people with disabilities to play PS5 games, is now widely available to buy for $89.99 / €89.99. To mark the occasion, Sony has put out a video featuring some of the people it consulted with on the project, showing the different configurations the controller can be used in.

An all-screen iPhone seems a long way away.

According to a report in The Elec, LG Innotek is working on an under-display camera (UDC) that might find its way into future iPhones.
But that could take some time. Apple reportedly wasn’t happy with recent component samples it was sent, and one analyst thinks the iPhone won’t get a UDC until 2027 (though the Face ID cutout could disappear and move under the screen earlier in 2025).

Our best look yet at Samsung’s next midranger.

OnLeaks and MySmartPrice have published renders showing off the reported design of Samsung’s unannounced Galaxy A55. Its design and specs look broadly similar to its predecessor, the Galaxy A54, which is our current pick for the budget handset with the best screen. But, if MySmartPrice’s information is accurate, we might be getting a slightly bigger 6.5-inch screen with the A55.
