What stage of capitalism is this?

DoorDash is partnering with Klarna so users can pay for groceries and takeout in installments. “Buy now, pay later” services like Klarna can be a convenient way to split up big purchases, but can also be debt traps. It’s the type of service the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was looking into — before Elon Musk and the Trump administration began gutting the agency.

    Elon Musk’s daughter speaks out.

Vivian Jenna Wilson, Elon Musk’s estranged daughter, doesn’t mince words in a new Teen Vogue profile when asked about her biological father. Musk has pushed anti-trans talking points, like saying his transgender child was “killed by the woke mind virus.”

Teen Vogue: Do you ever feel scared? He’s the richest man in the world.

Wilson: He’s a pathetic man-child. Why would I feel scared of him? Ohhh, he has so much power. Nah, nah, nah. I don’t give a f**k. Why should I be scared of this man? Because he’s rich? Oh, no, I’m trembling. Ooh, shivering in my boots here. I don’t give a f**k how much money anyone has. I don’t. I really don’t. He owns Twitter. Okay. Congratulations.

Luigi Mangione’s X account has been taken offline.

It’s not immediately clear whether the platform or someone with control (like his defense team) removed the account. Mangione, who is accused of gunning down UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December, has amassed something of a following since his arrest. At a routine court hearing in February, hundreds of people tried to get a seat in the courtroom.

DOGE stranded USAID workers with laptops full of sensitive data

After DOGE demolished USAID, the Trump administration has yet to collect work laptops and phones from former employees.

    Streisand effect alert.

Meta is in the midst of attempting to block a memoir from an ex-employee detailing accusations of misconduct at the company. Behind the scenes, Meta has apparently also been badgering Washington Post book critic Ron Charles, sending repeated emails asking him about his plans to review Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism by Sarah Wynn-Williams (you can read a preview of his newsletter below). He writes:

In my 27 years of reviewing and editing newspaper books sections, no company has ever done this with me.

    Today in Trump tariffs.

Donald Trump continues to push his trade war with Canada, saying in a Truth Social post that he’s adding an extra 25 percent tax on steel and aluminum imports — doubling what he announced on Monday. These additional tariffs are in retaliation for a surcharge on electricity coming into the US that Ontario implemented (which itself was retaliation for previous Trump tariffs).
