How much will C-Band upgrades cost the airline industry?

According to the International Air Transport Association, it’ll cost around $637.6 million to replace altimeters that don’t properly filter out C-Band 5G. That’s quite a bit more than the FAA’s $26 million estimate from January, though as Fierce Wireless points out the IATA probably “has an axe to grind” about the whole saga — it didn’t want carriers to get C-band from the start.

    31 out of 33 isn’t too bad.

Elon Musk says that only 31 of the 33 engines on SpaceX’s Starship booster actually fired, but the static fire test was still a thing to behold. Despite that, the test went really well otherwise according to the people over at the NASA Spaceflight channel, paving the way towards the ship actually launching.

They should start playing replays soon, so tune in if you want to see some flames.

What was with all the Twitter errors yesterday?

The “you are over the daily limit for sending tweets” messages apparently happened because “an employee had inadvertently deleted data for an internal service that sets rate limits for using Twitter,” according to Platformer. The team behind the service, however, has been gone since November.

Comcast told the FCC it offered 1.2Gbps internet to homes it doesn’t service.

And when one of the people who lived there tried to challenge the data to make the FCC’s broadband maps more accurate, the ISP reportedly disputed his claims. It’s worth reading Ars Technica’s writeup of how it eventually got corrected, but long story short neither the FCC nor Comcast end up looking good.

Thursday has brought even more layoff news.

Yahoo is reportedly laying off around 20 percent of its workforce, including 1,600 people in its ad tech department, according to Axios.

It’s not the only tech company making cuts today — Deliveroo is getting rid of around 350 jobs, and both GitLab and GitHub are laying off staff. The latter is also planning to close all its offices and go fully remote.
