    Who’s up for a whodunit?

Glass Onion, Rian Johnson’s sequel to 2019’s Knives Out, hit Netflix today after a brief stint in theaters. In my opinion, it’s an absolutely excellent mystery film, but you can read my colleague Andrew Webster’s (spoiler-free!) review for a Professional Opinion.

The Verge even gets a cameo in the film, but that’s all I can say without giving anything away.

TIL about Netflix’s clever film grain hack.

For years Netflix has apparently been using a feature of the AV1 video codec that lets it strip out bitrate-destroying grain, then add it back in when the stream is being decoded. That means that the device you’re watching Netflix on is actually using a map to generate the grain effect on the fly.

You can watch a talk from 2019 explaining the process below, and if you really want to dig into the details, here’s the paper proposing the tech.

Tesla’s reportedly doubling its 3 and Y discounts.

Tesla is offering customers a $7,500 “price adjustment” if they take delivery of a Model 3 or Y this month, according to Electrek. That’s twice the savings of the $3,750 credit it was previously offering, and enough to offset the (sometimes multiple) price increases Tesla’s imposed on its lineup throughout 2022.
