Software problems apparently stranded this Cybertruck.

According to the updated caption, this Tesla Cybertruck suffered from software problems that caused traction control issues and a failure to air down, while another post said it also had the wrong tires. That left it spinning its wheels during a recovery at the Corral Hollow OHV trail by the same kind of Ford SuperDuty pickup Tesla claims its electric truck can out-pull.

Also, at least on this release candidate, the people who recovered it said the truck lacked recovery tow points — they had to tie the ropes to its suspension.

That’s one way to use a Nintendo Game Boy.

Jalopnik points out this USB-powered Game Boy speedometer mounted in a Nissan 300ZX (yes, it does go past 99).

According to the person who made it, it meant replacing the internals with those of a speedometer. One of their more recent videos, however, shows an operational Game Boy in the same spot, modded with dual audio outputs for better sound.

Ad sales on X are reportedly about about a half billion lower than anticipated for 2023.

Bloomberg cites unnamed sources in this report about how much ad revenue has dropped for the platform formerly known as Twitter as its CTO continues to drive advertisers away, saying it’s on track for $2.5 billion this year despite internal targets for $3 billion.

X generated a little more than $600 million in advertising revenue in each of the first three quarters of the year, and is anticipating a similar performance in the current period, according to a person familiar with the numbers. That compares to more than $1 billion per quarter in 2022.

The X head of business operations, Joe Benarroch, is quoted disputing the figures, claiming the sources “are not providing accurate and comprehensive details... We are not Twitter any longer and not measuring ourselves by old Twitter metrics — both in revenue and user metrics.”

Fake podcast invites are one way for scammers to take over popular Facebook pages.

The Linus Tech Tips YouTube channel hack and takeover showed what an attacker could do after stealing session tokens with a fake sponsorship offer, but this report details how a podcast invite and Facebook Live connection is another angle.

The “podcast host” manipulated the hobbyist “guest” into exposing a unique “datasets” URL for their page. Once the scammer had it, they could invite themselves in as a new admin and lock the rightful owners out.

James O’Keefe’s replacement at Project Veritas quits due to “strong evidence of past illegality.”

O’Keefe, the organization’s founder and Forbes 30 under 30 Hall of Shamer, announced his exit in February while the Justice Department investigated how Project Veritas came into possession of a diary belonging to President Biden’s daughter ahead of the 2020 election. Now his replacement, Hannah Giles, says she’s out too*, as reported by The Messenger.

*But only after she delivered evidence of past crimes to the authorities, according to her statement, included below.

Statement from Hannah Giles: “I am stepping down from all roles with Project Veritas and Project Veritas Action — effective immediately, Though I had high hopes when I joined the organizations, I stepped into an unsalvageable mess — one wrought with strong evidence of past illegality and past financial improprieties. Once such evidence was discovered, I brought the information to the appropriate law enforcement agencies. Thank you
Statement posted by the outgoing Project Veritas CEO.

“So.. how are you making sure that this relationship between Bard and YouTube is fair for creators?”

Google showed off Bard’s new ability to pull deep content from YouTube videos recently, but if the robot is watching YouTube for you, does the YouTube Creator make any money?

Jules Terpak, a content creator who explores digital culture, asked that very question to Bard lead Jack Krawczyk, who didn’t seem to have very much in the way of an answer. You can hear it below at about 18:50.

Meta updates Threads link referrer so publishers can see where their traffic comes from.

Instagram boss Adam Mosseri’s small announcement is important to anyone who publishes content on the internet. Until now, traffic from Threads was indistinguishable from Instagram in the metrics used by sites like this one, But now that it has a separate link referrer, site owners can see for themselves how much traffic it’s sending in comparison to competitors.

On the other hand, Twitter / X allegedly just signed up 10 million new people in a week, if you can believe that.

It’s time for the annual MKBHD Blind Smartphone Camera Test.

Marques Brownlee is once again crowdsourcing opinions on photos. You can head to the voting site where, in three categories (standard, low-light, and portrait mode), you’ll see the same photo taken by 20 different smartphones and judge which one you prefer in side-by-side comparisons.

Last year’s results revealed some notable differences in how different phones process the same situation — we’ll find out soon how far apart they are now.

Sony stays silent as another PS5 bug locks players out of their purchased games.

For several hours on Friday, PS5 owners have been reporting a “CE-107928-7” corruption error when they try to download or update games. It was bad enough that at least one developer acknowledged the issue, and we saw it on our systems, too.

As of about noon ET, some say it’s resolved, and downloads are working again after a console restart. However, just like the issues earlier this week where players were “permanently banned” for a little while, Sony’s status page indicates all is well, its social media accounts are silent, and PR hasn’t responded to questions.
