Multitasking on a Mac, the Windows way.

Maybe you agree, or maybe you disagree with my take on macOS multitasking (I‘m not a fan, and for my tastes, it relies too heavily on knowledge of arcane gestures or third-party add-ons to efficiently handle the work I do).

But if you’re a Windows-first user on a Mac, this AltTab add-on (via LifeHacker) might be worth trying out. With this, Option + Tab works the same way as your usual Windows shortcut.

NASCAR banned the video game-inspired “hail melon” pass.

Cup Series driver Ross Chastain explained that this ridiculous wall-riding maneuver he used to vault his way into the sport’s postseason was something he and others used to try while playing NASCAR 2005 on the Nintendo GameCube,

Now that we know it can work in real life, Polygon reports NASCAR explicitly banned it ahead of next season, and will assess a time penalty if anyone tries to pull off something similar.

PayPal is laying off 2,000 employees.

The latest mass layoff event in tech is happening at PayPal, where CEO Dan Schulman announced:

I’m writing to share the difficult news that we will be reducing our global workforce by approximately 2,000 full time employees, which is about 7% of our total workforce.

If you’re wondering why we’ve seen so many of these and why the 7 percent figure is so familiar, Elizabeth Lopatto can try to explain.

Samsung’s chip profits dropped by 90 percent in Q4.

The Korean electronics giant still recorded over $3.49 billion in operating profit, but as Reuters notes, that’s its lowest quarterly profit since 2014.

As indicated by recent results and some dire guidance, it’s mostly tied to a sharp plunge in memory chip prices that slashed profit in the chip division to just $220 million. However, Samsung also reported weak demand for smartphones in Q4 — putting even more emphasis on this week’s Galaxy S23 launch event.

Samsung’s big Galaxy Unpacked event on Wednesday will reveal more on its consumer devices phones and tablets, but, as Bloomberg points out, we’ll also keep an eye out for its quarterly earnings results.

Due to be released Tuesday morning in Korea (around 8PM ET today), they’ll give a clearer look at the plunging market for the memory chips.
