    Green light.

The CES madness in Las Vegas has begun, Twitter is broken in Australia, and someone else has probably scored 50 or more points in an NBA game since I started writing this.

You can keep up with all the CES stories in our stream, and below, I’ve listed times for some of the events we expect to have news from today. Keep an eye on the front page here; if there are live streams available, we’ll post them so you can follow along.

Phenomenal cosmic power, itty bitty living space.

This 14-inch gaming laptop is no lamp, but it’s still mind-warping to consider a mobile version of a massive RTX 4090 graphics card inside this notebook. And yet it’s real, promising AI-enabled DLSS 3 and enhanced ray tracing that will be available starting next month.

Even if pure performance isn’t your goal, Nvidia claims that with its new tech and low-voltage GDDR6 memory, the mobile 4070 can deliver RTX 3080 performance while using one-third as much energy — saving your laptop’s battery.

Apple’s market cap is down $1 trillion from its peak exactly one year ago.

On January 3rd, 2022, the value of Apple’s shares briefly crossed $3 trillion.

Today, on January 3rd, 2023, the value of $AAPL shares fell to 125.07 at the market’s close, a 52-week low that sets its market cap at a frankly piddling $1.99 trillion. Now analysts are predicting a slight decline in revenue when Apple releases its latest quarterly earnings report in a few weeks.

The share price is down amid greater economic and interest rate concerns (see, it’s not just Tesla and crypto taking a beating), as well as gloomy news about both iPhone production and demand.

Google’s January 2023 Pixel update is rolling out now.

If you have a Pixel 4a (or newer) Google phone, then there should be an update headed your way soon.

According to the notes, this patch should bring Android 13’s support for spatial audio to “certain devices and accessories,” as well as tweaks for fingerprint recognition on the Pixel 6a and Pixel 7, Bluetooth improvements, and other fixes, including the latest security updates.

If you don’t want to wait for the automatic rollout, there are images of the new OS available here for manual installation.

Who is helping Sam Bankman-Fried remain free on bail and out of prison?

We may not find out which two parties will “sign separate bonds in lesser amounts” in addition to the $250 million personal recognizance bond co-signed by Bankman-Fried’s parents. SBF’s lawyers are requesting to keep their info private.

That arrangement has allowed the FTX co-founder to stay with his parents in California after being extradited from the Bahamas, although he is due to appear in court in New York City again today at 1:05PM ET. As Bloomberg reports, he is expected to plead not guilty to the many criminal charges he’s facing.

Specifically, we request an order from the Court directing that the names and other identifying information of Mr. Bankman-Fried’s two remaining bail sureties (1) be redacted on the bonds they will sign, and (2) not be publicly disclosed by the Government. We have conferred with the Government on this issue and have been informed that the Government takes no position on the request.

    Green light.

The traditional holiday slowdown is over, as it’s a new year and, of course, a new CES.

LG and Samsung aren’t waiting for the show floor to open to kick off their announcements of new screens in all kinds of shapes and sizes, but I’m more curious about the new smart home and automotive tech that will be on display.

    “It wasn’t me.”

According to out-on-bail FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried, discussing suspicious transactions on crypto wallets linked to him and FTX / Alameda Research.

We don’t know who is moving the funds, but we do know that SBF just can’t shut up, apparently even while his former associates are copping pleas for fraud and cooperating with prosecutors.
