Amazon reportedly has a ‘framework’ of a deal to stream NBA games.

Following a report by Puck’s John Ourand that ESPN has carved out a piece of the new NBA media landscape, The Athletic added an Amazon rumor:

It is expected that Prime Video’s package will include significant regular season and postseason games, perhaps even some conference finals. The anticipation is that the final contract will be for at least a decade and begin the 2025-2026 season.

If the deals go through, this might add streaming NBA games on Thursdays when Amazon’s NFL games aren’t on.

    The Onion has new owners.

G/O Media sold Deadspin, The A.V. Club, and The Takeout last month. Now Global Tetrahedron, which includes Twilio co-founder Jeff Lawson and former NBC News reporter Ben Collins, has acquired The Onion.

Taking over as CEO, Collins told the NYT:

We’re keeping all the writers, we’re going to work with the union, we’re going to make it so they can hopefully get paid a little bit more money, and we’re going to give them the room to grow.

The NBA’s next media rights deal is up for grabs.

According to the WSJ, Amazon, YouTube, and Peacock are all in the mix alongside incumbents Warner and Disney, with the possibility of snagging global streaming rights for some games.

When these deals kick in after 2024-2025, they’ll exist alongside the three-headed effort from Disney, Fox, and WBD, standalone ESPN, Netflix and the WWE, the NBA’s FAST channel and who knows what else.

    Coachella weekend two continues.

YouTube’s livestream from the music festival is available once again, as it will be through 2026 at least. This year it includes NFL-style multiview in YouTube’s TV apps so you can keep an eye on more than one broadcast.

The schedule is available here, and hopefully, this weekend, everyone will know how to use their equipment properly.

Nilay really wants to talk about new Sony TVs.

That is the name of this segment on The Vergecast about Sony’s new Bravia 9 series that’s ready to challenge OLED.

How much do they cost? That’s harder to discuss, despite David’s prodding.

The Bravia 9 retails for $3,299.99 — and that’s just for the 65-inch model. Going up in size from there, it’s $3,999.99 (75-inch) and $5,499.99 (85-inch).

Tesla cuts prices by $2,000 and says its referral program is ending.

Electrek notes Model Y, S, and X prices have dropped by $2,000, and Tesla said its current referral program would end after April 30th, but it will return eventually.

This follows sales numbers reflecting “an unmitigated disaster,” a Cybertruck recall, and the reported cancellation of a $25k “Model 2.” Elon Musk & Co. have much to discuss on Tuesday’s earnings call.

Composite picture showing the actual price of a Model Y on Tesla.com ($42,990), and tweets from Tesla announcing a price drop with credits and savings included along with a post saying referral program benefits will end after April 30.

Linus Torvalds on the attempted XZ Utils hack.

During a keynote interview at Open Source Summit North America, the Linux founder discussed tabs vs. spaces, RISC-V, and the risks of security issues from maintainers raised by the recent exploit attempt:

Torvalds acknowledges that “Clearly it’s a wake-up call — there’s no question about that… I think we’re going to see a lot of work being put into some kind of trust model, where people see, ‘Oh, this is a new person’, or ‘This is a person that is acting differently from before.”
