The FISA reauthorization bill has finally passed the House.

Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act — a controversial law that allows warrantless surveillance on “foreign” targets — is set to expire on April 19th. The GOP, led by Speaker Mike Johnson, failed to move the bill forward the last three times, but I guess fourth time’s the charm.

At least one Trump-appointed appeals court judge is excited about using AI to advance conservative judicial philosophies.

Speaking to the University of Chicago’s Federalist Society chapter, Judge John Bush of the 6th Circuit opined on how AI could bolster originalism, a judicial philosophy that attempts to interpret the Constitution as the 18th century founders would have.

He was also pretty bullish on how AI will advance legal corpus linguistics, something I can only describe as “Scalia but with search engines.” In 2022, Nicole Wetsman wrote about how it played a huge role in overturning the mask mandate.

    Dogecoin shows up in court.

Per Matthew Russell Lee of Inner City Press, a witness in the ongoing Sam Bankman-Fried trial had to spell out “D-O-G-E” in response to a question from a prosecutor. It doesn’t look like there were any follow-up questions about a cryptocurrency based on a meme. It’s probably for the best.

The United States Navy is doing an AMA right now with some of its “Cyber Warfare Engineers” and that’s pretty weird.

Seeing faceless, anonymous nation-state hackers go on Reddit to do promo for the Navy is giving me some feelings. Feelings like: confusion, concern, amusement, vague embarrassment over my amusement, and more confusion.

Unrelated: It’s been almost 10 years since Chelsea Manning, a military intelligence analyst, was convicted and sentenced to prison for leaking classified material to the press.
