Hands-on: AMD’s prize Starfield RX 7900 XTX is too pretty to hide inside my PC.

Confession: I originally vetoed a Verge quickpost about the limited-edition Starfield AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX. I figured it was too good to be true, and who wants to see renders of a mystical GPU that only 500 people will ever own, including a smattering of influencers?

Replace “renders” with “my own photos” and it turns out... I do. Love the colors and iconography.

Scan your Lego for (potentially) thousands of dollars in Lego points.

Lego VIP is now “Lego Insiders,” unifying other accounts in the process. It’s still a free signup to get first dibs on new sets and collect points.

But now, you can get points for existing sets — just 20 per instruction manual QR code you scan with your phone, which seems a tad stingy — and there’s an AR treasure hunt where you can scan a brick to potentially win $9,000 worth (in nine countries), tho it’s not working for me right now.

BTW, WD/SanDisk is getting sued over those shady SSDs.

I thought I’d point it out here, too — since it’s a little low in my story about how the company is refusing to answer our questions.

TL;DR: Western Digital is now facing a potential class-action lawsuit over the SSD that lost 3TB of my colleague’s data, and whose owners apparently don’t deserve any warnings or answers

Update: Actually, WD is facing down three lawsuits and counting.

Jsaux now sells a $90 anti-glare screen for the Steam Deck.

iFixit sells the genuine Valve anti-glare screen for $100, including its microwavable iOpener tool to help loosen adhesive. Jsaux’s version has an electroplated oleophobic coating to resist fingerprints (which Valve’s admittedly attracts.)

I can’t say which is better, but it means we’ll soon have three replacement screen options — the third being the upcoming higher-resolution, more colorful DeckHD. None of them are beginner-friendly, with the latter also requiring a BIOS patch.

Amazon should get rid of star ratings. Instead, it’s making them shittier.

Star scores let fly-by-night companies get away with egregious shit by letting “reviewers” artificially inflate a score without the accountability of actually writing a review. (Humans still have a sporting chance of detecting fake reviews.)

But instead of killing off star ratings, Android Police found Amazon testing a new system which — in writer Chandraveer Mathur’s words — “makes it much easier for the seller to maliciously obtain enough five-star reviews to counteract any influx of truthfully negative ones.”

Have you seen these dehumidifiers? Stop using them or you might die.

This isn’t clickbait: the US Consumer Product Safety Commission has repeatedly recalled millions of dehumidifiers from one company — and yet four more people have died in fires likely caused by the faulty machines.

Problem is, these appliances were sold under 13 other names, including big labels like Frigidaire, GE, and Kenmore. So look at these images. If you see a match, get your refund and get it out of your house STAT.

Watch me swap the Framework Laptop 16’s GPU in under two minutes.

The Laptop 16 promises to finally fulfill the broken dream of upgradable gaming laptops. How easy can it be? See for yourself — I don’t cut away once during this video!

The bigger question: will Framework secure future GPUs to swap into this PC? It’s got a solid track record with CPUs...
