Turns out Sony’s DualSense Edge does have some Hall Effect.

While the $200 PS5 gamepad still uses drift-prone potentiometers for its analog joysticks and triggers, iFixit found they do have magnetic Hall Effect sensors instead of buttons for their full trigger press.

Oh, and the haptic motors are no longer soldered to the board. Add the modular thumbsticks, and this pad’s relatively repairable!

The Steam Deck is finally a true gaming PC.

All it took was RGB LEDs.

(And a JSAUX transparent backplate, and a M0 microcontroller, and competent soldering skills, and 1-3W drain on the Deck’s battery... instructions here.)

Green, orange, red, purple, blue, and teal points of light glow out from the back of the Steam Deck with transparent rear plate.
This Steam Deck is spittin’ rainbows.

Updated Steam? Now try pressing that little “expand window” button at the upper right.

Steam’s new Big Picture Mode has made it to the stable ring at last, giving you a way more responsive way to select PC games from your couch, touchscreen, or with a Windows portable like the Ayaneo 2 I’m trying right now. It basically gives you the Steam Deck UI on your PC.

A double-digit drop in phone sales.

Qualcomm warned last quarter that phone sales would see a double-digit dip in 2022, and here it is again: 18 percent lower revenue from handsets in the quarter that ended December 25th. IDC said it’s the “largest-ever decline in a single quarter” for phones.

Car chips are booming, but these bar graphs are obviously NOT to scale. Full financial results here.

Samsung phones will again get one more year of updates than Google Pixels.

Samsung just showed up Google yet again, promising “four generations of OS upgrades and five years of security updates” for its new Samsung S23 phones on the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 stage. Google’s phones still only give you three years of new features.

    Nintendo Fish.

A Japanese YouTuber created a custom setup to allow his pet fish to play Pokémon on his Nintendo Switch, but a malfunction led to the fish spending money at the eShop and revealing its owner’s credit card information on live stream.

    We are truly beyond parody.
