Unreleased Xiaomi folding phone design leaks out.

Three years ago, phone design got wacky as big manufacturers raced to figure out the best way to use bendy screens — and Xiaomi had the coolest-looking designs by far. Then, Samsung made the Fold and Flip and a bunch of that spark disappeared in favor of practicality. But Xiaomi made another prototype back then that it never showed, according to a new leak.

If I had to guess, it got axed for being too similar to Huawei’s Mate X.

Amazon employees are still waiting to hear if they’ll keep their jobs.

Were you expecting Amazon to simply announce its expected 10,000 layoffs? Recode writes that the company’s swinging the ax quietly instead — quietly enough that many don’t know what’s going on. Meanwhile, “large swaths of the company’s HR division” are receiving voluntary buyout offers.

    Just a harmless treasure chest.

Dungeons & Dragons is getting an official Lego set based on designs from fans — and those fans are telling Lego loud and clear that the Mimic deserves consideration. Over two dozen different Mimic designs have been submitted (out of 621 total entries), but I can’t get over how beautifully / terrifyingly Varghoss’s Ultra Mimic here comes to life.

    The Tech Winter, visualized.

The mass layoffs at Twitter, Meta, and soon possibly Amazon are just the tip of the iceberg.

Tech job marketplace TrueUp.io has been keeping track — and it says over 183,000 people have already been hit by tech layoffs so far in 2022. You can see the details in the company’s interactive tracker here.
