Your USB 4 port might become a Thunderbolt 4 port someday!

That’s what just happened at Framework. The modular laptop company just got Intel to certify that its latest USB-C / USB4 ports satisfy all the requirements of Thunderbolt 4 too, letting you set your mind at ease that you’ll get 100W of power, 40Gbps data rates, and up to 8K 60 external monitors via DisplayPort.

Of course, Framework was already advertising those things cuz its expansion cards could already do all that — nothing is stopping USB4 mfgrs from building in the same capabilities as Thunderbolt 4. It’s just that many manufacturers don’t, and Thunderbolt is one way to prove you did. (Tho even Thunderbolt doesn’t guarantee eGPU support.)

3D-print yourself a better way to hold up your Steam Deck in bed?

Behold: the RestDeck. “The design is very human, very easy to use,” says creator Andrew_HL2.

While that phrasing made me chuckle quite a bit, particularly once I gazed upon its full set of appendages, I would have killed for something like this after the electric scooter accident that sent me to the hospital and savaged my hands and wrists. Something like this could be even handier for those with more permanent conditions.

You can easily check whether tech companies like Twitter are illegally surprising employees with mass layoffs.

California has a list publicly accessible on the internet: See “Latest WARN Report” at this link. You’ll generally need a spreadsheet tool to open it, but I already stuffed the most recent version into Google Sheets so you can take a peek.

As of October 31st, Twitter had not yet told California it was going to lay off loads of workers — but guess which company does show up? Tesla. Musk can’t pretend he’s unaware of the law.

Kitty litter brand digitizes three dozen cats in hopes you’ll adopt them.

What if the cat in excellent adventure game Stray was a real stray cat you could adopt? A creative agency working on behalf of Fresh Step kitty litter has come up with maybe the next best thing: a “game-based adoption event” where streamers will play Stray using avatars based on 36+ actual shelter cats you can apply to bring home with you.

It’ll happen next Wednesday, November 9th. Here’s the press release with participating streamers.
