The Trump administration’s latest chip tariffs are here.

The 25 percent tariff announced on Wednesday only applies to chips imported into the US then exported to other countries, as the New York Times reports. While it won’t apply to chips imported for use in the US, it will let the government collect some of the earnings from sales of AI chips to China.

The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft’s Fig colorway is almost here.

The new red-purple hue will be available on January 28th, adding a more vibrant alternative to the original “Graphite” version we reviewed last month. However, it looks like the “Fig” color will only be an option for the more expensive $679.99 64GB version of the Scribe Colorsoft.

The Trump administration will allow Nvidia to export H200 chips to China, on a few conditions.

Sales of Nvidia’s AI chips to customers in China will be approved on a “case-by-case basis,” as Bloomberg reports. But the chips shipped to China can be “no more than 50% of the total products made for the US market,” and can’t create a shortage in the US.

Google is bringing a useful Meet feature for hybrid meetings to iOS and Android.

Google is adding Meet’s automatic conference room detection feature to the Meet and Gmail mobile apps. First launched on laptops last year, it uses silent ultrasound signals that are picked up by your phone’s mic to automatically check you into your conference room and prompt you to join Meet calls with your device in Companion mode, avoiding annoying feedback or other problems.

Warhammer publisher Games Workshop has banned its staff from using AI in content and designs.

GW won’t be making AI-generated Warhammer products any time soon, the Financial Times reports.

“We will be maintaining a strong commitment to protect our intellectual property and respect our human creators,” GW CEO Kevin Rountree says, adding that, among its senior managers, “none are that excited about [AI] yet.”
