Guillermo del Toro on using generative AI for filmmaking: “I am not interested, nor will I ever be interested.”

In an interview with NPR about his Frankenstein film arriving on Netflix next month, del Toro drew a hard line, saying he’d “rather die” than use AI, and compared today’s “tech bros” to Victor Frankenstein (the inventor, not the monster):

“I did want it to have the arrogance of Victor [Frankenstein] be similar in some ways to the tech bros. He’s kind of blind, creating something without considering the consequences and I think we have to take a pause and consider where we’re going.”

The Pixel Camera app is crashing on de-Googled Android phones thanks to a new font.

The issue is caused by a font in the latest update to the app (version 10.x) that’s only available through Google Play Services. As a result, it’s crashing or simply failing to launch on phones running GrapheneOS and other “de-Googled” versions of Android, reports Android Authority.

Tesla is recalling nearly 13k vehicles over a battery defect that could cause sudden power loss.

A potential battery pack contactor defect could cause the EVs to suddenly lose power, as reported by Reuters. Tesla acknowledged in a NHTSA filing that the issue impacts 12,963 2025 Model 3 and 2026 Model Y vehicles manufactured between March 8th and August 15th, 2025.

Affected vehicles are equipped with a battery pack contactor manufactured with InTiCa solenoid which may suddenly open due to poor coil termination connection, potentially causing a sudden loss of propulsion.

Apple’s rumored foldable 18-inch iPad is delayed until 2029 due to “engineering challenges.”

Don’t expect a foldable iPad to quickly follow Apple’s lightly refreshed M5 iPad Pro, as the project is reportedly delayed, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

His sources indicate that, unlike the rumored foldable iPhone, the $3k Mac-like tablet is tied up in development issues, around its weight, features, and OLED display.
