Samsung Unpacked rumored for July 10th in Paris.

The date, first reported by Sammobile back in March, is now being reported as fact by Chosun. It also makes sense given Samsung’s sponsorship of the Paris Olympics which kicks off on July 26th — oh, the advertising possibilities!

Expect to hear more on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 and wearables like the Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Watch 7, and Galaxy Buds 3.

First demo of T-Mobile’s Direct to Cell service.

The video call works, barely, and that’s before fighting other LTE-compatible phones for access to the T-Mo service first announced in 2022.

But when the choice is no coverage versus this, well, I’d call that a win. And it’ll only be available for texting later this year in the US, with data coming in 2025 as SpaceX launches more D2C Starlink satellites.

TikTok plans ‘significant layoffs’ this week.

According to current employees who spoke to The Information after being told of the cuts:

“The layoff will affect a large percentage of the roughly 1,000 people working in TikTok’s global user operations, content and marketing.”

TikTok cut about 60 workers from its sales and advertising teams back in January.

A solar powered cargo e-bike is coming.

Inga from Norway’s Infinite Mobility is fitted with 160W of semi-flexible solar panels, a 594Wh battery, stepless Enviolo shifter, and 250W motor with 25km/h top speed. It can carry up 250kg (about 551 pounds).

Founder and CEO Moez Jomâa to PV Magazine:

A full day in the sun is enough to fill the battery from zero to full charge. An hour is sufficient for at least 8 km of driving... In our target markets of Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria, the battery can go many months throughout Spring and Summer without recharging from the grid.

Prototypes are being tested right now and it’s expected to go into production starting next month.

A working prototype.
The panels are fitted to the sides and a cover.
A higher-capacity version is also in the works.

Stability AI seeks a buyer.

Facing a cash crunch, The Information reports that the British startup had talks with at least one potential buyer in recent weeks.

It’s a sign of a pending AI consolidation surely to come given the high cost of talent, compute power, and meager revenue opportunities currently available.

Grok arrives in Europe.

I don’t know if the arrival of an AI with “swagger” is good or bad news, I only know it isn’t funny and will surely lie to you like all other LLM-based forms of artificial intelligence.

The $599 Alternator Charger sits between the starter battery on your RV, van, or truck and the giant EcoFlow battery you use to power your work and play when off the grid.
