X reverses course on Brazil.

Elon Musk’s lawyers have reportedly undercut his free-speech theatrics related to ye old Twitter’s refusal to block accounts as ordered by the country’s highest court. According to Reuters, X’s lawyers said the following in a letter addressed to Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes on Monday:

“As already communicated to the federal police, X Brasil informs that all orders issued by this Supreme Court and the Superior Electoral Court will continue to be fully complied with by X Corp.”

Samsung’s also getting billions for US chip production.

The $280 billion package linked to the 2022 Chips and Science Act — which has already earmarked up to $8.5b for Intel and $6.6b for TSMC — has now allocated up to $6.4b for Samsung to expand chipmaking efforts in Texas with two new facilities for research and packaging. Samsung will in turn invest roughly $45b in its Texas facilities over the next decade.

iPhone sales plummet allowing Samsung to retake top spot.

According to IDC, iPhone sales fell by nearly 10 percent globally compared to the same Q1 last year as Chinese companies like Huawei, Xiaomi, and budget maker Transsion surged.

While Samsung won the quarter (after Apple took the lead for all of 2023), it’s still down slightly YoY and not keeping up with the 7.8 percent increase in smartphone demand.

Gocycle now sells a carbon fiber balance bike.

Is £399 / €399 / $399 too much for a 2.6kg (5.7lbs) gateway bike for your tiny tot? When they tire, you can just load the Gocycle Mini into your new Gocycle Cargo e-bike to teach your kid all about multi-modal lifestyles and brand cohesiveness. Deliveries are expected to start in October.

It features Gocycle’s single-sided front fork.

Third-party browsers report record iPhone users.

Aloha Browser says EU users jumped 250 percent in March after the Digital Markets Act forced Apple to display a new default browser choice screen. It joins Brave, Firefox, Vivaldi, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, and Opera in reporting user spikes, according to Reuters.

Nevertheless, the EU is investigating Apple’s implementation over complaints that it’s too complicated.

X enables passkeys for iOS users worldwide.

While the platform’s influence has waned, your dormant Twitter account could still have embarrassing or dire consequences if hijacked. So it’s probably worthwhile to setup a more secure passwordless passkey on your iPhone just in case.

Americans stopped internetting to stare at the sun.

Coudflare’s data showed an eight percent drop in US traffic at the time of yesterday’s eclipse compared to the week prior. What it doesn’t show is the deluge of crappy photos that followed.

Looking at the United States in aggregate terms, bytes delivered traffic dropped by 8%, and request traffic by 12% as compared to the previous week at 19:00 UTC (14:00 Eastern, 12:00 Pacific).

Apple’s canceled car and watch display projects resulted in at least 600 layoffs.

That’s according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman who says an additional 121 jobs are at risk due to Apple consolidating AI teams. Those 121 employees in San Diego have the option of moving to Austin (Apple is offering a $7,000 stipend) or leave the company at the end of April.
