Samsung’s Galaxy AI is coming to 100 million Galaxy phones.

After its impressive debut on the S24 series, Samsung said its Google-powered AI will expand to “select Galaxy devices” by mid-2024. TM Roh, head of Samsung’s mobile division, now gives us a rough target for the mix of old and new devices:

Galaxy AI in the Galaxy S24 series is a hybrid AI using both on-device and cloud-based AI. This year, we will introduce Galaxy AI to about 100 million Galaxy smartphones for the global expansion of mobile AI.

For context, Samsung shipped about 220 million smartphones in all of 2023, as Apple overtook it for the first time — something Roh is determined to change:

“We are taking the (decrease) in shipment volume seriously,” said Roh, predicting double-digit growth in S24 sales compared to the S23 series.

Apple offers Epic “extremely generous” discount on $81,560,362 legal bill.

In a January 16th filing, Apple asked the court to award it $73,404,326 in relief to cover its out-of-pocket expenses, lawyer fees, and other costs arising from Epic’s lawsuit. A bargain, if you ask Apple:

Although it would be reasonable for Apple to seek the total amount of its Losses in this matter, it has provided a 10% discount in recognition of Epic’s win on one out of ten of its claims. This 10% overall reduction is extremely generous, given the undisputed fact that the UCL claim did not constitute nearly 10% of the litigation, as this Court recognized.

    Meeeoooow.

Let’s put a drone on it.

The latest in this hey-look-at-me car trend comes from BYD, the company that just overtook Tesla in global EV sales. It recently demonstrated a DJI Mavic 3 Pro “Auto Docker” that lives atop a U8 SUV from luxury sub-brand YangWang. It safely stores the drone and contains a battery-swapping robot, all of which can be monitored and controlled from the infotainment system. Great if you’re an #SUVLIFE influencer, I guess.

PSA: Wear fake fingers to make real photos look AI generated.

The following is a dramatic retelling:

Prosecutor: That’s you in this surveillance image, correct?

    Ne’er-do-well: That’s a deepfake, count the digits.

    Judge: Case dismissed.

    “Not too close, euroscum.”

That’s what Tim Cook’s body language says to me when meeting Europe’s top competition watchdog Margrethe Vestager who pressed the Apple CEO to open the App Store amid other concerns like Apple Music. It’s all part of her whirlwind tour with US tech CEOs ahead of the strict new Digital Markets Act taking effect on March 6th.

    Other possible captions:

“Oh, so this is what a functioning government regulator looks like.”

“The only danish I want to touch comes in pastry form.”

I feel the need, the need for Top Gun 3.

There’s no way lightning will strike three times for Tom Cruise and the franchise that’s already struck gold twice, but the man currently filming the eighth (!) Mission: Impossible is reportedly reuniting with Maverick co-writer Ehren Kruger, director Joe Kosinski, and sinewy actors Miles Teller and Glen Powell. The film has quietly been in development since late fall, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

That’s right — Ice. Man. — I am dangerous... to new ideas.

First look at Garmin Connect’s overhauled interface.

DesFit, a leading voice in the fitness device space on YouTube, has a preview of the new Garmin Connect app and website that’s currently in beta for select users. This major overhaul will hopefully correct one of the main pain points that comes with using Garmin’s information dense devices. Des likes the emphasis on swiping panels, but says the at-a-glance screens will take time to get used to and the website still needs polishing.

    What do you think?

LG’s camping trailer is nicer than most homes.

I love bending nature to my will, but the Bon Voyage concept trailer is... something. LG’s experimental Labs group has fitted this beast with a bed and bathroom as usual, but also a wine bar, outdoor beer fridge, karaoke machine, an external TV revealed behind a fold-down table, a second pull-out table with integrated induction cooktop, that stupid Duobo coffee creature, and one of those clothing sanitizers LG has been bringing to CES for years but I’ll never understand.

More details on Jackery’s rooftop tent and solar generator.

Jackery tells the The Bearded Tesla Guy that the center solar panel of that expandable 1000W array will be capable of 400W when the rooftop tent ships in Q4. It will feature a removable power station (with optional battery expansion) integrated into the tent that’s “sleekly designed” to maximize interior sleeping space. There’s also an optional AC inverter to quickly charge those batteries off the vehicle’s alternator.
