China says Apple phones plagued by “security incidents.”

“We noticed that there have been many media reports about security incidents concerning Apple phones,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning.

Is Ning referring to media reports like the uptick in iPhone 0-day exploits we recently wrote about... or maybe it’s this piece from Apple pundit John Gruber who thinks China might be gaslighting everyone, and its real reason for banning iPhones for use by government employees is that it can’t eavesdrop as easily on iOS devices?

    Ford sneaks out new badge.

Car and Driver noticed that the blue oval emblem found on the new 2024 Ford F-150 has been redesigned. The slightly larger white script and removal of the outer chrome ring are subtle changes, but significant when placed on America’s bestselling vehicle since, well, forever.

15 US companies have now pledged to develop AI responsibly.

The pledge to the White House includes a promise to develop technology to identify AI-generated images and share regular safety data with the government and academics. Today, Adobe, Nvidia, IBM, Palantir, Stability, Salesforce, Cohere, and Scale join OpenAI, Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Anthropic, and Inflection in making the pledge.

So now we can totally stop worrying about humanity being turned in house cats by the hyper-intelligent robots to come.

Cybertruck wheel covers double as ninja death stars.

Dashcam footage of a pre-production model shows a plastic wheel cover being flung into busy highway traffic. Concerning for a company plagued by initial quality issues and the first production Cybertruck deliveries expected any day now.

UK air traffic outage caused by a labeling issue.

    Per The Guardian:

Nats said the failure was due to “an extremely rare set of circumstances” with two identically named but separate waypoint markers outside the UK’s airspace – a scenario that has not occurred in more than 15m flight plans previously processed in the five years that the current system has operated.

The failure caused chaos last week with more than 2,000 canceled flights.

“It’s like a spa in here.”

If that’s what you’re looking for in your future EV then the Mercedes-Benz CLA Class is for you... you know, if it wasn’t just a concept. It’s got LED light bars, a massive glass roof, “vegan silk-like fabric,” air vents integrate into the edge-to-edge dashboard display, and lots of ornamental stars.

MB says it’s got a 750km (466 miles) range because you can say anything about a fake car.

Future BMWs will feature Panoramic Vision.

The Vision Neue Klasse concept is a preview of what’s coming for new BMWs, both outside and in. A new Panoramic Vision display extends across the entire width of the windscreen allowing both the driver and front passenger to interact with it, and drivers can move content from the Central Display to the Panoramic Vision with a gesture. “This innovation will complement the enhanced BMW Head-Up Display in the production models of the Neue Klasse,” says BMW.

Teardown confirms 7nm chip inside new Huawei.

The Kirin 9000s chip made by SMIC in China inside the new Mate 60 Pro is still a few generations behind what TSMC is producing for current iPhones (4nm), expected to move to 3nm next week. And without access to advanced machines from ASML it’s going to be very hard for China to advance efforts further.

The teardown does not confirm 5G, although the phone is certainly capable of 5G-like speeds.
