An iPhone without buttons or ports draws near.

Ming-Chi Kuo, the Apple blogosphere’s favorite analyst, says next year’s iPhone 15 models might feature solid-state volume and power buttons that mimic mechanical presses just like Mac trackpads, alongside new USB-C ports he’s mentioned before.

Any bets on when Apple will also ditch the mute switch and move to wireless charging exclusively to make the portless and buttonless iPhone of Jony Ive’s dreams?

Facebook now worth less than Home Depot.

One company is focused on building materials for your home, the other is newly obsessed with building virtual homes in a metaverse. Guess which business model investors value more?

Laser-powered chip transmits an internet’s worth of data in just a second.

Pranshu Verma reporting for The Washington Post:

The amount of data researchers sent, roughly 1.84 petabytes, far exceeds the roughly 1 petabyte of data transmitted over the entire internet every second.

Unlike most it-works-great-in-a-lab inventions, this one stands a chance of commercialization since there’s nothing too special about the transmission method’s single-chip design or fiber optic cable.

Elon’s not firing 75 percent of Twitter’s staff.

Now that Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover is starting to sink in, we’re getting a new report from Bloomberg that the Tesla and SpaceX CEO and “Chief Twit” won’t, in fact, fire 75 percent of the staff as previously planned. I guess he met some, like, really really cool people yesterday during his Twitter HQ visit.

Another Fiido e-bike model is breaking in half.

Micah Toll reporting for Electrek on a second e-bike that has a frame defect causing it to split in two:

I would have loved to see them include all of their future e-bikes in that $10,000 guarantee, though, as that would make them extra sure that any new e-bike gets sufficiently tested on the way out of the factory.

How can anyone trust this e-bike brand after two serious recalls in six months?

    Surprise! Google updates Pebble App.

Early Kickstarter darling and smartwatch pioneer Pebble was purchased by Fitbit which ended support back in 2018. Google recently bought Fitbit, and two days ago it updated the official Pebble App to provide compatibility with the new Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. The app is no longer hosted on the Play Store but the APK is signed using the official Pebble keys for an easy update. Good on ya Goog.

Apple TV for less than $100? Maybe next time.

Ming-Chi Kuo, the Apple blogosphere’s favorite analyst, says the next Apple TV could come in under the $100 barrier. Why listen? Because in May he correctly predicted the cheaper $129 Apple TV announced yesterday.

Elon Musk pockets $3 million with burnt hair perfume gag.

There’s rich and there’s stinking rich. What started as a throwaway joke by Musk became a real product sold by the Boring Company. Imagine being one of the 30,000 people who spent $100 just to be part of the club.
