Phi-4-multimodal and Phi-4-mini are Microsoft’s latest small language models, both launching on Azure AI Foundry and Hugging Face today. Phi-4-multimodal improves speech recognition, translation, summarization, audio understanding, and image analysis. Phi-4-mini is designed for speed and efficiency situations, and both can be used by developers on smartphones, PCs, and cars.

I reported last week that OpenAI was targeting a release of GPT-4.5 by the end of February, and it looks like it’s about to happen. Reddit posters have discovered references to GPT-4.5, codenamed Orion, in the Android version of ChatGPT. I’ve also heard from one source familiar with OpenAI’s plans that the GPT-4.5 launch should be going ahead today.

Some owners of Nvidia’s RTX graphics cards have noticed black screen issues with the latest driver update recently. VideoCardz spotted that Nvidia has now confirmed that a driver update will be available later this week that includes a fix for the black screen issues. Some RTX 5090 cards are also receiving a BIOS update that will address the black screen problems.

After months of speculation, Activision has finally revealed that it has used AI to generate some assets in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Fans noticed a zombie Santa with six fingers over the holidays, alongside weapon decals and player cards that seemed to be AI generated. Activision hasn’t detailed what parts of Call of Duty are AI-generated, but it had to confirm “our team uses generative AI tools to help develop some in game assets,” to adhere to Steam’s new policies.

OpenAI is expanding access to its new Operator AI agent to more markets today, including the UK, Canada, and India. Announced last month, Operator can perform tasks on the web for you, and requires a $200 monthly ChatGPT Pro subscription. Microsoft is also working on its own version of OpenAI’s Operator.

Bethesda has updated Indiana Jones and the Great Circle with DLSS 4, Multi Frame Generation, and even FSR 3.1 Frame Gen support. That’s great news if you somehow managed to purchase an RTX 50-series card recently, or if you want to try out AMD’s frame generation tech. Path tracing is also now supported on AMD and Intel GPUs.
