Yes, you can run Firefox on your Volvo’s infotainment screen.

Reddit user Touchwiz worked their way into running Firefox in their XC40 on Android Automotive even though it’s not a Google-sanctioned app, and yes, it can play YouTube videos (via Mishaal Rahman).

It doesn’t “just work,” however. To pull this off, you’ll have to compile the open-source browser as another app and upload it to the Play Store using an active developer account.

Maybe don’t drive around while using it, though.

Google brings social videos to the Play Store to influence your next download.

The company is launching The Play Report, a new video series showcasing apps and games on Android (again, anyone who plays games on Android — please show yourselves). Currently in pilot in the US, the videos will appear on the top of the Google Play Store in an interface similar to YouTube Shorts or Amazon’s Inspire clips.

New episodes will launch “over the next few weeks” for select users, and will additionally appear on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.

The Alone in the Dark remake won’t be here for Halloween.

THQ Nordic is delaying the modernized 1992 classic survival horror game that is supposed to kick off the “re-imagining” of the initial trilogy for a new generation of players. It’s now slated for January 16th, 2024 — about three months later than the original October 25th date.

Meanwhile, Alan Wake 2 is still coming this year, although now on October 27th.

Google’s Pixel 8 might get Wi-Fi 7 — but ultra-wideband may only come to the Pro.

FCC filings suggest both the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro will get the yet-to-be-certified Wi-Fi standard (available now in some routers), as reported by Droid Life and shared by Android expert Mishaal Rahman.

But the non-Pro Pixel 8 might lack the ultra-wideband chip needed for Google’s upcoming “Hold Close to Cast” feature and the same goes for the rumored Pixel Watch 2.

EVgo opened its latest DC fast-charger location at a Chase Bank.

The two companies arranged a ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday in Richardson, Texas, for a four-charger station (one of 50 locations agreed upon nationwide) that can handle up to 350kW charging speeds — fast enough to charge up an EV while you stand in a long ATM line.

A representative for EVgo, Terry Preston, tells The Verge there are now 15 operational locations at Chase branches across California, Texas, Illinois, Indiana, Georgia, Florida, and Pennsylvania. The more chargers, the better.

Apple’s Vision Pro headset has a boot sound.

It’s included in the beta 3 release of visionOS, as shared by @M1Astra. It’s short, echoey, has some sci-fi vibes, and sounds inspired by the classic Mac chime. I can see a vintage Macintosh SE making this boot sound while floating through space. We’ll see if this one sticks until the Vision Pro launches next year.

Tesla owners might not have to worry about Supercharging too much.

Electric vehicle research organization Recurrent collected battery health data on over 12,500 US Tesla vehicles measured over five years.

Its assessment of the data shows no “statistically significant difference in range degradation” between EVs charged only (more than 90 percent of the time) at high-speed DC chargers versus primarily using AC ones (less than 10 percent use of fast chargers). It might not hold up all other EVs and charging situations, but it’s something.

This graph shows the maximum battery capacity of Teslas over time, comparing vehicles that are either frequently or rarely fast-charged.
