    Bob Wehadababyitsaboy.

Software engineer Robert Heaton wrote a tool that gives him “free, unbelievably stupid wi-fi” on planes, by... repeatedly updating fields in his Air Miles account without paying for in-flight Wi-Fi.

Go read this blog recounting how his PySkyWiFi tool uses data tunneled through the limited space of his Air Miles account information to a proxy computer on the ground. It’s apparently very slow. And it sounds a little familiar.

FCC docs show Pixel 9 phones with built-in Thread radios.

That’s according to 9to5Google. As it happens, Android 15 may support directly controlling smart home devices with your phone via Thread, a key component of the Matter smart home protocol.

Pixel 9 phones wouldn’t be alone — Apple put Thread radios in the iPhone 15 Pro phones, too.

The first TMNT: Mutant Mayhem game looks the part.

Based on the game’s first trailer, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed developer AHeartfulofGames seems to have nailed the Mutant Mayhem visual style.

Disappointingly, Mutants Unleashed only supports two players. It’s out for PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PCs on October 18th.

There’s a new AMD-powered mini PC for the Intel NUC crowd.

This fast AMD mini PC comes with a 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX, a Radeon RX 7600M XT GPU, and two NVMe SSD slots. And at $1,249 for the barebones model, it’s cheaper than the Asus ROG NUC with an Intel Core Ultra 9.

Correction: Only one SSD slot is PCIe 5.0; the other is 4.0.

    An inauspicious debut.

The Lotus Evija X, a prototype version of Lotus’ $2.3 million electric hypercar, almost immediately slammed into the haybales on the side of the track during its first official public appearance at Goodwood Festival of Speed on Thursday, Autoblog reports.

The crash owed to “asymmetric grip caused by overcorrection during the rapid acceleration at the start line,” Lotus told Road & Track, adding damage was “minimal.” Here’s a clip from Sky Sports.

Texans turn to a fast food app to track power outages after Hurricane Beryl.

One local found that the Whataburger app’s location map, which uses color to show if a store is open or closed, was surprisingly useful for tracking outages in Houston, where the state’s fragile energy grid succumbed to the category 1 storm and left millions without power.

Helpful, since at least one local energy provider’s outage map wasn’t functioning, as Austin-American Statesman writes.
