The iOS and iPadOS 17.5 release candidate developer beta is now available.

The release candidate signifies that Apple is wrapping up this round of betas before the update goes to everyone. It’s fairly minor for the US, adding things like Apple’s next Pride wallpaper and a new Apple News puzzle game.

It’s much more significant for the EU, where updated iPhones will now be able to download apps straight from the web.

Police are trolling Lockbit with its own site.

An international police coalition seized the ransomware gang’s dark web site in February, and is now using the site to tease blog posts with a timer hinting that it will reveal information about the group tomorrow at 10AM ET, reports BleepingComputer.

Lockbit previously resurfaced after the coalition’s takedown, claiming to have struck back at the FBI, and reportedly soon resumed its other activities.

    In a Lego mirror, darkly.

In its first teaser, the new LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy (on Disney Plus September 13th) goes where no Star Wars production has gone before by entering Darth Jar Jar into the canon.

Just kidding, it’s not canon. But it does look like a fun DC Elseworlds or Marvel’s What If...? kind of approach, which I’d like more of (no multiverse though, please).

If Apple doesn’t announce a new Apple Pencil tomorrow, I’ll eat my hat.

You can erase the logo for the company’s “Let Loose” iPad event (10AM ET tomorrow) at the top of its home page. I can’t seem to erase the whole thing before it switches to new art, though.

    Very unsatisfying. 6 / 10.

Sony is now in play to buy Paramount.

Paramount has formally begun negotiating with the company as the “period of exclusive talks with the Hollywood studio Skydance lapsed on Friday night,” according to The New York Times today.

Sony, which signaled its interest in buying Paramount last week, would reportedly hold controlling shares, while Apollo would have a minority stake, if the deal goes through.
