Nvidia’s new Neuralangelo AI model creates 3D models from 2D video clips.

Nvidia’s researchers say Neuralangelo can be used to speed up creation of textured 3D assets for video games, art, robotics, and more.

It sounds like a more powerful version of Epic’s RealityScan app, or Nvidia’s own work with Instant NeRF, which use photos, rather than video. Here’s a video of it in action:

    What’s Mark Zuckerberg holding?

The Zuck posted a teaser image to his Instagram story with a countdown to 11AM ET on Thursday obscuring... something (courtesy of Voices of VR podcast host Kent Bye and presented here with some light editing).

What’s he holding? It’s surely not a Meta Quest 3. Is it a philly cheesesteak? A tennis ball? Did he get his fingers stuck in one of those finger traps? If it’s the last one, don’t worry, Mark, that thing confounded Data once, too.

Watch Anson Mount be handsome in season one of Strange New Worlds for free on YouTube.

That’s right, the first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is free on YouTube ahead of the June 15th season two premiere — TrekMovie has links to all the episodes.

It’s got goofy episodic heart and a cool season-long arc. You can just watch it right under this post if you want:

Don’t have time to watch the meeting recording? Intelligent Recap is live in Teams.

Microsoft announced the Intelligent Recap feature for Microsoft Teams Premium back in October last year, and now it’s available in the US (EU gets it in August).

Intelligent Recap generates meeting notes with AI, adding possible follow-up tasks and timeline markers so you can skip to relevant parts of a meeting recording. Eventually, Microsoft says, it’ll generate chapters.

NASA beamed a record 200Gbps to the ground using a space laser.

NASA’s 530km-high TeraByte InfraRed Delivery (TBIRD) system reached a staggering 200Gbps downlink to a receiver on the ground, IEEE Spectrum reports. This doubles last June’s 100Gbps throughput, which “was 100 times faster than the quickest internet speeds in most cities.”

Less than ten years ago, NASA was celebrating just over 600Mbps, but it now thinks the tech could eventually enable up to 5Gbps throughput from the moon:

Moreover, Mitchell says, they are looking at ways to push TBIRD’s capabilities as far away as the moon, in order to support future missions there. The rates under consideration are in the 1 to 5 gigabit per second range, which “may not seem like much of an improvement, but remember the moon is roughly 400,000 km away from Earth, which is quite a long distance to cover,” Mitchell says.

Grab your iPhone or iPad and check out Apple’s “AR Experience” teaser ahead of WWDC.

Apple has a little AR teaser for WWDC (spotted by MacRumors). To see it, visit the Apple Events website using Safari on your iPhone or iPad and tap “AR Experience,” point your camera at a wall, and you’ll get a colorful animated logo with June 6th, 2023 — the WWDC keynote date — printed inside.

Apple’s mixed reality headset is expected to be the biggest announcement at this year’s WWDC.

The Apple logo floating in the air, casting a drop shadow on the wall, with a colorful animation showing only parts of it at a time, revealing the date June 5, 2023.
The Apple logo hints at the company’s rumored headset.
