“Robotaxi” is too generic to trademark.

The US Patent and Trademark Office rejected Tesla’s request to trademark the term for being “merely descriptive” and describing “similar goods and services by other companies,” reports TechCrunch:

Tesla needs to give the agency specific plans for how and why it deserves the “Robotaxi” trademark.

The examiner also wrote that Tesla will need to tell the USPTO if “competitors” use the terms “ROBO, ROBOT, or ROBOTIC to advertise similar goods and/or services.”

Tesla has three months to respond before the application is abandoned.

Hugh Laurie will do crime in a new Apple TV Plus show.

The Wanted Man will see Laurie play Felix Carmichael, the “elusive and powerful head of notorious British crime syndicate ‘The Capital,” according to Apple’s press release. After going to prison, Carmichael learns he’s been betrayed, and so decides to try to escape to exact revenge.

The show comes from George Kay, who also created the Idris Elba-starring Hijack. The Wanted Man’s other stars include Thandiwe Newton, Fionn Whitehead, and Gina McKee.

Newark air traffic controllers say an equipment failure knocked out radar and communication last week.

Last week, United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby partially blamed a “walkout” by air traffic controllers, along with equipment failures and understaffing, for massive delays and the cancellation of 35 daily round-trip flights.

On Monday, the New York Times reports a National Air Traffic Controllers Association statement saying the April 28th incident wasn’t a walkout. After radar and comms dropped out for about 90 seconds, according to Bloomberg, leaving them shaken and concerned about possible accidents. “...controllers took absences under a law that allows federal workers who are physically injured or experience a traumatic event on the job to leave work.”

Update: Added NATCA statement and newer reports.

    Half-Life 3 is “playable end-to-end.”

So says Tyler McVicker, a Valve watcher who held a Q&A session last week, answering questions about the development of the game. He says the game could be announced by this summer.

While reporting McVicker’s video, Engadget noted other recent hints the game is actually happening, including a Valve concept artist claiming to have been present where development on the game took place, and Valve leaker Gabe Follower “signaling a non-cliffhanger ending” to the game.
