How are there still Nintendo games to find?

A retro game hobbyist in Japan posted to X after stumbling on two Famicom Disk System games, one a dev build of Eggerland. The other was, incredibly after all this time, “a mysterious undocumented game” called Maze.

Time Extension noted that the hobbyist plans to post video from the find soon.

Chinese state hackers reportedly accessed US wiretap systems.

The hackers worked their way into the networks of AT&T, Verizon, Lumen Technologies, and others, according to anonymous sources cited by The Wall Street Journal:

For months or longer, the hackers might have held access to network infrastructure used to cooperate with lawful U.S. requests for communications data, according to people familiar with the matter ... The attackers also had access to other tranches of more generic internet traffic, they said.

The US DHS recently said thwarting Chinese hackers was a top security priority.

The shortcut to AI-generated smartphone-style photos.

As a reminder that AI image generators’ training data tends to include peoples’ regular smartphone photos, try entering an iPhone-like picture file name into the prompt field for Flux1.1 Pro, as this person did.

I got some similar results when I tried prompts like “IMG_4001.JPG” with its predecessor, Flux.1, a model that drives xAI’s Grok-2 image generation.

    Scope creep.

Colin of the This Does Not Compute YouTube channel says what started as a Macintosh SE/30 motherboard repair turned into spending “over a year and about a thousand bucks” building this franken-Mac, instead.

He used some original parts; but it’s otherwise assembled from new old-stock chips, a custom motherboard, and solid polymer caps that will “never leak like electrolytic ones tend to.” The end result? A functional, RGB-laden, translucent SE/30.

Google’s “Ask Photos” feature is rolling out for some folks.

If you signed up for Google’s waitlisted feature that lets you ask Gemini questions to surface photos and videos, you might be getting it soon, as 9to5Google reports that the feature seems to be going live for some who’ve joined the list.

If you’re not already on the waitlist, you can jump in the queue by signing up on Google’s site.

You’ll need a PSN account to play the Horizon Zero Dawn remaster on PC.

Meanwhile, the original game has been delisted on Steam, Polygon writes. (You can still get it in a bundle with the remaster, which requires you to link a PSN account.)

Sony introduced the same requirement for God of War: Ragnarök earlier this year, and unlike with Helldivers 2, it hasn’t taken that decision back.
