Apple is supposedly waiting for ‘the robotic arms’ to build iPhones in the US.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick says he asked CEO Tim Cook about how to make US-built iPhones happen (despite Cook’s explanations for why they won’t), per an interview with CNBC:

LUTNICK: He said, “I need to have the robotic arms ... do it at a scale and at a precision that I can bring it here. And the day I see that available, it’s coming here, because I don’t like to employ all these people foreign.”

Studio Ghibli’s movie stills remain as lovely as ever.

Kottke.org reminds us today about that time in 2020 when the famed animation studio published hundreds of stills from its animated films. Ghibli promised it would put up more over time, and so it has — including 2023’s The Boy and the Heron.

    BBSes are back, bbs.

IEEE Spectrum wrote about running an old-school bulletin-board system (BBS) from a Raspberry Pi 3 over LoRa, using the off-grid mesh-networking capabilities of Meshtastic, and it sounds like a very fun, nerdy project.

I didn’t have internet access early enough to get in on the BBS craze at its height. Perhaps this is my second chance?

Etsy is selling Reverb, its music gear resale site.

Almost six years after buying it for $275 million, Etsy is selling Reverb to an investor group founded by former SoundCloud CEO Kerry Trainor and Fender parent company Servco, Engadget reports.

In its announcement of the deal, Reverb says it will operate “as a standalone business” and that it’s making changes like making more music creation software available on its marketplace. It didn’t disclose how much money is changing hands in the deal.

4chan explains why it went down for almost two weeks.

After posting to its blog for the first time in 8 years on Friday, 4chan published a new post explaining what took the site down on April 14th, as Engadget spotted. The social media site blames hackers uploading a “bogus PDF” that “exploited an out-of-date software package on one of 4chan’s servers.”

It’s back, but not all the way — as of this writing, images and the ability to post still haven’t returned.
