Netgear’s new router is the ‘world’s fastest’ and natively supports Plex Media Server

Netgear’s new Nighthawk X10 AD7200 router is supposed to be the “world’s fastest,” at least according to Netgear. The company also claims that its new router is the first designed for “media streaming and instant backup,” which is not very true and makes me wonder if I can trust Netgear about any of its claims.

Let’s get into it. The X10 comes with a 1.7GHz Quad Core processor, can reach speeds of up to 7.2Gbps, and supports 60Ghz 802.11ad Wi-Fi, which is ideal for streaming and gaming. Only a couple other routers currently available support 802.11ad, including the Talon AD7200 from TP-Link. Check out the new Nighthawk’s four antennas, too.

The coolest thing about the Nighthawk X10 is probably that it supports Plex Media Server, so you can access your Plex server without a PC. I appreciate anything that streamlines a process.

All this sounds pretty great, right? I’m convinced the Nighthawk X10 AD7200 is a good, if not great, router. Here’s the thing, though, it costs $499. That’s the price of a mid-tier Android phone, or a drone, or really nice headphones, or maybe someone’s rent, or a personal trainer, or a trip to Los Angeles. Seriously, that’s a lot of money! Maybe a quality 4K stream is worth it, though.
