LG is teasing a new LG ThinQ Speaker with built-in support for Google Assistant ahead of the big CES show in January. LG worked with Google on the so-called “premium” speaker that the company is positioning as a voice-activated interface for LG’s smart home appliances. The speaker can control countless devices from many manufacturers including LG’s own ThinQ smart home products; a lineup that includes smart lamps, door locks, thermostats, sound bars, and appliances like fridges, washing machines, and robotic vacuums.

LG is pursuing an open smart home strategy by supporting a variety of voice services, including Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and its own Deep ThinQ intelligent voice platform. Today’s ThinQ Speaker only supports Google Assistant, but LG has a different speaker if you’re looking for Alexa support. If you want a single speaker that supports both then you should consider the Sonos One.

LG also announced a new suite of audio products including soundbars and portable Bluetooth speakers. The company partnered with Meridian Audio for its new audio products including a new Dolby Atmos SK10Y soundbar, and portable PK series speakers that feature “premium sound and mood lighting.” LG hasn’t indicated a price, availability, or any real specs for the LG ThinQ Speaker, or any of the other products announced today, but they’ll all be on display at CES 2018 starting January 9th where we’ll surely learn more.
