The latest poster for DC Studios’ upcoming Clayface movie — out October 23rd — from director James Watkins definitely leans into a kind of body horror that’s very different for the DCU. That kind of energy could be nice change of pace as the studio builds its new cinematic universe.

HBO’s Green Lantern series looks too grounded for its own good.

The entire point of HBO’s upcoming Lanterns series is to introduce new incarnations John Stewart and Hal Jordan — two superpowered space cops — to DC Studios’ cinematic universe. Superman’s pal Jimmy Olsen is getting a true crime show on HBO Max.

Gorilla Grodd — DC Comics’ gorilla supervillain who has longstanding beef with the Flash — is set to be the focus of DC Crime, a new HBO Max “true” crime docuseries hosted by Daily Planet reporter Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo). No premiere date yet, but Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault are attached to write / showrun the project.

Netflix is cooking up a Black Hole adaptation.

Deadline reports that Netflix has tapped I Saw the TV Glow director Jane Schoenbrun to write and direct an adaptation of Charles Burns’ comic, Black Hole. Like the comic, the new series will tell the story of a town where a virus turns sexually active teens into strange monsters.

Marvel is getting even more meta with Wonder Man.

First, Yahya Abdul-Mateen showed up at the Fantastic Four: First Steps premiere, giving in-character interviews as Simon Williams — the star of Disney Plus’ upcoming Wonder Man miniseries. And now, Marvel has dropped a Wonder Man teaser that makes it seem like the show will be about an in-universe superhero movie reboot.

Disney and Webtoon are launching a new comics platform.

Soon, Disney Plus subscribers will have access to a “curated selection of content” on a new digital comics platform that’s being developed by Disney and Webtoon. In addition to thousands of classic titles from the Marvel, Star Wars, and 20th Century Studios brands, the platform will feature original Webtoon series.

Spinoffs are the new punk rock.

Sony decided to go the live-action route for its upcoming Spider-Verse spinoff series starring Nic Cage’s Spider-Man Noir, but Deadline reports that the studio is in the early stages of developing an animated Spider-Punk feature co-written by Ajon Singh (Primetime) and Daniel Kaluuya, who will presumably reprise his role as Hobie Brown.
