Darth Vader’s lightsaber sells for over $3.6 million at auction.

The lightsaber, wielded by Vader in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, went on sale during an auction held by the memorabilia company, Propstore. The auction includes plenty of other iconic movie props, including Indiana Jones’ whip, which fetched more than $485,000.

This one’s for the fans.

We reported yesterday that a pretty extraordinary selection of movie props went up for auction, from Indiana Jones’ whip to Michael Keaton’s Batsuit. The biggie is Darth Vader’s lightsaber, estimated to sell for $1 million to $3 million, a price that all but guarantees it’ll go to someone truly deserving.

Britain is boned.

Things don’t look good for the survivors in the first trailer for 28 Years Later sequel The Bone Temple, out January 16th. Danny Boyle only produced this one, with Nia DaCosta (Candyman, The Marvels) helming instead, given the dubious honor of bringing a Jimmy Savile-themed gang to vicious life.

Knives Out, in theaters.

Just like with Glass Onion, Netflix is giving Wake Up Dead Man a brief theatrical run before it starts streaming in December. The movie is also premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival later this week, and I’ll be on hand to check it out. Stay tuned.

KPop Demon Hunters was this year’s biggest surprise, but can Netflix do it again?

The streamer has already ordered a sequel, but part of what made the first movie a sleeper hit was that no one saw it coming.

A brief glimpse at Return to Silent Hill.

If last year’s Silent Hill 2 remake wasn’t enough, here’s an early look at the upcoming film adaptation. The trailer is short, but does include a look at our old friend Pyramid Head. It hits theaters on January 23rd, which should be enough time to play Silent Hill F beforehand.

The Duffer Brothers will still be able to oversee their in-development Netflix projects when their current contract with the streamer is finished next year. Amazon’s movie disaster used real-life natural disasters.

I watched the new War of the Worlds movie because my colleague Marina dared me to. (You can read about that “experience.”) But commenter justintyler pointed me to a video that reveals the film took actual disaster footage and CGI’ed over them with unconvincing aliens — actual wildfires, actual plane crashes, actual tsunamis. Is it insensitive? Lazy? Both??? Anyway, watch the TikTok video:

It’s now easy to 3D-print your own glowing, humming lightsaber.

Bambu now sells electronics to drop into your creations — remember my floating light bulb and TARDIS? This time, I’m using the $135 “Motion-Activated Sound and Light Props Kit” with Joel He’s double-bladed saber files, but you can design anything you like. Should I try a Zelda Master Sword next?

Let the Wookiee win.

It’s apparently already time to start thinking about more than just your Halloween decor. Hallmark’s 2025 lineup of Keepsake collectibles includes a $99.99 Star Wars ornament recreating the scene aboard the Millennium Falcon where R2-D2 and Chewbacca play a game of Dejarik.

The ornament includes lights, sounds from the movie, and what appears to be a simple Pepper’s Ghost illusion that uses a hidden screen and a transparent surface to recreate the holochess effect.

Pressing a button on the ornament activates lighting effects, turns on the Dejarik game, and plays sounds from the scene in Star Wars.

Spinoffs are the new punk rock.

Sony decided to go the live-action route for its upcoming Spider-Verse spinoff series starring Nic Cage’s Spider-Man Noir, but Deadline reports that the studio is in the early stages of developing an animated Spider-Punk feature co-written by Ajon Singh (Primetime) and Daniel Kaluuya, who will presumably reprise his role as Hobie Brown.
