Fortnite

Fortnite is the biggest game in the world, and it keeps on growing. After starting out on PC, Fortnite has moved to PS4, Xbox, and the iPhone, and had a crossover event with the Avengers. The battle royale game even counts Drake as a fan.

Fortnite “OG.”

That’s apparently the name of the game’s next season, which is set to bring back old locations and remix some classic skins, as shown in a new teaser trailer. I’m a fan of how Epic blended Peeley the walking banana with Lil Whip the ice cream person into a kind of humanoid sundae.

The new season kicks off on Friday.

When we dropping?

Epic is teasing the next season of Fortnite, which appears to have a time travel component that will bring that game back to the original Chapter 1. I’m not exactly sure what that will look like, but we’ll find out on November 3rd. Hopefully they bring back the black hole.

Epic Games won’t let you trade items with your friends in Rocket League starting in December.

The feature will be removed on December 5th. According to Epic:

We’re making this change to align with Epic’s overall approach to game cosmetics and item shop policies, where items aren’t tradable, transferrable, or sellable. This opens up future plans for some Rocket League vehicles to come to other Epic games over time, supporting cross-game ownership.

That last line is intriguing. I wonder if Epic plans to sell cars in Fortnite?

A gaming chair they’ll have to peel you out of.

Secret Lab made a gaming chair that’s themed around Fortnite’s humanoid banana Peeley. Maybe this is where Peeley unwinds after a day in court.

Ahsoka touches down in Fortnite.

As promised when the new season launched, Star Wars heroine Ahsoka is now available in Fortnite (so long as you purchased the current battle pass). She has an adorable pet for back bling and her arrival also means the return of lightsabers to the battle royale island. The timing is also good: the penultimate episode of Ahsoka’s Disney Plus series is streaming tonight.

The MKBHD studio... in Fortnite.

BasedAF, a company “with a focus on creating content about, around, and within the metaverse,” recreated the MKBHD studio inside of Fortnite using Epic Games’ UEFN tools. You can learn more about how the BasedAF team made it in another video. (Warning that this video is... hyperactive.)

I’m guessing the video is being published today because of the new Fortnite season.

It’s Friday.

So here’s a screenshot from the video game Fortnite, in which Bender from Futurama is riding a raptor, wielding a rifle, and hunting humans in a jungle.

Futurama is back, and also in Fortnite.

Good news everyone: the sci-fi show returned from the dead for a new season on Hulu this week, and soon there will be some kind of Fortnite collaboration as well. It’s not clear if you’ll be able to play as Fry and Zoidberg, or if the Hypnotoad will appear on the battle royale island, but all is expected to be revealed at 5AM ET tomorrow.

100 Thieves made a game in Fortnite.

The gaming / lifestyle / esports organization has a new game, Bank Heist, that you can play in Fortnite right now. It was built with the recently-launched Unreal Editor for Fortnite tools.

100 Thieves is also working on a separate video game that’s codenamed “Project X.”

They turned the battle bus into a Transformer.

Fortnite’s recent collaboration with Transformers has come to its logical conclusion: the iconic battle bus is now a robot in disguise. No word on whether it’s an Autobot or a Decepticon.

Swoosh.

Epic Games and Nike are teaming up on Fortnite gear and a slick-looking Nike-themed Fortnite island made with Epic’s new Unreal Editor for Fortnite tools. If you play the “Airphoria” island for 10 minutes or more, you’ll even snag a Nike shoe you can use as a back bling.

As part of the partnership, you can link your Epic account to .SWOOSH, Nike’s Web3 platform, to get a “.SWOOSH Achievement.” If you see “Web3” and think “NFT,” I understand. But Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney says that Fortnite isn’t getting NFTs and an Epic support article says that these Achievements “cannot be traded, sold, or exchanged and have no monetary value.”

This is fine.

The legendary webcomic is now an emote in Fortnite. It’s only available through the new season’s battle pass, so if you want it, you’ll have to buy the pass and level up or purchase levels before the season ends near the end of August.

(KC Green, the creator of the comic, was paid for Epic’s use of the emote.)

Where we dropping bots?

Epic keeps teasing the next season of Fortnite, which kicks off on June 9th and will include new characters like a sexy cat man and Optimus Prime. Hopefully players won’t run into Unicron.

Fortnite is getting wild.

Fortnite’s current cyberpunk-themed season is ending soon, and Epic is already teasing what’s next: a season dubbed “Wilds,” which kicks off on June 9th. Better use those web shooters while you still can.

Legendary Final Fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano designed a Fortnite skin.

You probably know his work from iconic game covers, and now you can take it into battle (royale). Check out some cool behind-the-scenes illustrations over on his Instagram page.

Podracers not included.

If you’re already done with that other Star Wars game, the galaxy far, far away has once again descended on Fortnite. That includes gameplay features like the return of lightsabers and Force abilities, as well as the prerequisite new characters to buy like Anakin, Padme, and Darth Maul. You can get all the details right here.

Fortnite-ception.

Five big streamers known for playing Fortnite — CourageJD, Nickmercs, Ninja, SypherPK, and TimtheTatman — are heading up a new in-Fortnite battle royale game built with the new Unreal Editor for Fortnite toolset. They’re calling it Project V, and it’s scheduled to launch in 2024.

Fortnite’s latest character hates sand.

Another Star Wars character is joining the ranks of Fortnite’s battle royale. This time it’s Anakin Skywalker, who will be available in-game on May 2nd. Just watch out for players who have the high ground.

Fortnite and Roblox are dueling for the future of user-built games

The two giants are part of a race to become something akin to the YouTube of gaming.
