It's been 25 years since Sega's Out Run first made the scene at the video arcades, and now an enterprising DIY-er has pulled one of the consoles apart and used it as the basis of a very amusing hack. Out Run Analogic was built by YouTube user Amandris and combines the original arcade hardware controller with a steering wheel from an R/C car, controls for acceleration and braking, and a scrolling backdrop. Magnetic sensors detect collisions and the whole thing is powered by the Arduino open source microcontroller. All in all the thing is pretty impressive, and it's sure to appeal to the nerd in you.
