The ghost of LG Smartphone is about to peace out for good.

LG quit the smartphone business two years ago this month — only to turn around and promise three years of Android updates for its swan song handsets from 2020.

With Android 13 now rolling out to the LG Wing, the company’s final phone is getting its final update. I can’t think of a wilder phone to go out on. (BTW, here’s what happened to the Rollable.)

This is the best time in a decade to splurge on a premium OLED TV

LG’s G3 and Samsung’s S95C promise the brightest, most impressive picture we’ve ever seen from OLED TVs — and that’s on top of other advantages like perfect blacks and excellent gaming performance.

Nvidia’s GeForce Now 4K streaming arrives on LG 2023 TVs.

Nvidia now supports native 4K streaming through GeForce Now on LG 2023 smart TVs like the OLED B3, C3, and G3. Up until now 4K GeForce Now streaming was only available on some Samsung TVs with an Ultimate subscription. LG’s 2021 and 2022 models are limited to 1080p. Bandai Namco is also adding the Little Nightmares games to GeForce Now today if you’re looking for something to play.

Party speaker season is upon us.

LG’s latest party speaker, the beefy XBoom XL7, is now available for $599.99. You’re getting a 250-watt system with 20 hours of battery life, an 8-inch woofer, and IPX4 water resistance. It’s got the built-in telescoping handle and wheels for keeping the party moving. Karaoke mode? Obviously.

But the real draw, as usual, is all the customizable lighting. The woofer ring lights up, but that’s old hat. This thing does text and even full-on animations. I challenge someone to get The Verge logo on there.

Your move, Sony.

Your fridge company now offers travel advice.

LG “highly recommends” you visit Rome and NYC because they “reflect the brand’s embrace of art and tech while delivering unique value to visitors.” Sure.

What’s next, Samsung offering fashion advice? Oh, right!

The HDMI spec continues to be pretty busted.

The idea of HDMI is you shouldn’t have to worry about bandwidth or VRR or any other part of the alphanumeric soup that makes up the HDMI spec. You should just care about HDMI 2.0 or 2.1 or 1.4 or what have you. But as the video below explains, loopholes exist that make buying the right TV to plug all your HDMI 2.1 gadgets into pretty dang difficult.

If you were hoping most 2023 TVs would have the best version of HDMI 2.1 on every input, you’d be wrong.

LG is recalling 56,000 of its giant 86-inch TVs.

Nobody has reported an injury yet, but the 100-pound televisions can — and have — tipped over when using their optional stand legs. You can contact LG to get a free repair and free replacement parts.

LG’s Signature OLED M is (almost) wireless.

A few years ago LG’s gimmick for the highest-end version of its OLED TV was a paper-thin display that you could slap on the wall and connect to its soundbar / base station with a single wire.

In 2023, LG’s top-of-the-line 97-inch 4K OLED doesn’t need the connecting wire at all.

From wireless to 8K and back to more reasonable options, Verge editor and reviewer Chris Welch is ready to walk you through the entire lineup.

Maybe this would look better inside an actual car.

As usual, LG Display isn’t waiting until the show starts, or even the new year, to talk about what it’s bringing to CES 2023.

This, uh, free-flowing P-OLED and LTPS (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon) LCD display concept (shown below) imagines a bend in the touchscreen splitting climate settings from the main UI.

Besides the screens, LG Display is also bringing its “Thin Actuator Sound Solution,” a grill-less speaker made with “film-type exciter technology” that’s the size of a passport and 2.5mm thick. It can be installed in places like your car’s “dashboard, headliner, pillar, and headrests.”

Your move, Sony.

Mock-up of a car interior, with a massive LCD screen stretching lengthwise along the dashboard, plus a center-mounted tablet-like touchscreen, with the lower third bent for a more vertical orientation where touch climate controls appear.

LG has achieved the perfect press release.

Is this real life? Is this just parody? I can’t stop giggling either way. Not even ChatGPT can say this little with this many words. My favorite line:

“Cho ended his talk by reminding everyone at LG that the future will be determined by the way we think and act now, which is, ultimately, to prepare for the future.” Oh we will, LG, we will.

A real Jabberwocky moment, this.

LG C2 OLED TV review: you can’t go wrong

It’s far from the brightest TV out there, but as the sweet spot in LG’s lineup, the C2 combines stunning picture quality with an exhaustive list of features and terrific gaming prowess.
