The radio stations of the world, visualized.

Last night, a friend pointed me to Radio Garden. The site (or iOS app) is simple, presenting a swipe-able digital Earth covered in green dots. Some represent collections of local stations, and some, like the lonely, all-shellac-78s Arctic Outpost AM1270, solemnly broadcast into the Earth’s farthest reaches.

James did a good job documenting the unexpectedly simple, nostalgic joy of Radio Garden in his Verge story years ago.

The newest band merch is a custom font.

Wilco have debuted “Loft Sans,” a new typeface for the band — and for its fans to license. It’s only $30, which is less than half the price of a Wilco hoodie. Good deal.

Bandcamp’s union accuses Songtradr of refusing to hire unionized workers.

Bandcamp United has filed an Unfair Labor Practice charge against Songtradr, the company that purchased Bandcamp from Epic Games, according to a report from 404 Media.

The union alleges that Songtradr refused to hire employees because they “joined or supported a labor organization and in order to discourage union activities or membership,” 404 Media reports. Last month, Songtradr confirmed that only 50 percent of Bandcamp workers were given offers to join Songtradr, with the rest getting laid off.

The publisher behind the songwriting copyrights to some of the most popular music ever recorded doesn’t think AI spells doom for the industry.

It’s me, hi, I’m the billionaire, it’s me.

According to Bloomberg’s analysis of Taylor Swift’s public assets, she’s now “one of the few entertainers” to achieve billionaire status based almost entirely on her music, merch, and live performances. Swift’s Eras Tour is projected to become the highest-grossing solo tour in history.

Bloomberg’s article is worth reading if only to appreciate the cute bead-bracelet graphics that are used to illustrate Swift’s staggering wealth.

Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour made close to $100 million in its opening weekend.

Swifties and the Swift-curious (and probably some mix of obligated parents) reportedly pushed Taylor Swift’s theatrical release of her concert tour film to between $95 million and $97 million.

Variety reported that AMC says it can’t be more exact with its projections “without clear comparisons.” Rival theaters think the number is closer to $94 million, according to the outlet.

Either way, that’s a lot of money for a concert film and keeps it in the same territory as Joker’s October box office opening weekend record of about $96 million.

Taylor Swift’s concert film is, so far, as popular as Joker was.

Variety reported this morning that Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour came this close to breaking another record yesterday, reportedly notching the second-biggest October box office opening day ever at $39 million.

Joker keeps its $39.3 million October opening day record, while the Venom: Let There Be Carnage first-day take of $37.4 million drops it to number three.

Swifties are legion.

Behold: Ghostwriter in the flesh.

The person behind that hit AI Drake song “Heart on My Sleeve,” @ghostwriter977 on TikTok, is making what (I think?) is his first public appearance at Bloomberg’s Screentime conference in Los Angeles. He’s in disguise and speaking through a voice distorter, which is pretty good theater as far as business conferences go.

“Honestly, this is bigger than me,” he tells the crowd when asked why he wants to say anonymous. “AI is going to be a big part of our future and we need to prepare... it’s not about who I am.”

He calls “Heart on My Sleeve,” which garnered millions of views before it was taken offline at the request of Drake’s label, Universal Music Group, “an experiment,” and says he “won’t be uploading music again without participation of the talent.”

When didn’t he just ask Drake for permission beforehand? “I don’t have Drake’s phone number.”

Fast, funky hands!

Maybe you caught the very good jazz anime Blue Giant in theaters this weekend? The composer of its soundtrack, Japanese pianist Hiromi, actually released a new album Sonicwonderland last Friday. But like any artist, the most fun way in is to watch their NPR Tiny Desk Concert. Here’s Hiromi’s from last month.

It is Bandcamp Friday.

Even though ownership of the company is changing, this remains, at least for now.

The monthly waiver of commissions is scheduled to continue through the rest of this year, on November 3rd and December 1st.

Look at this gorgeous digital piano designed to teach kids how to play.

Readers of Verge gift guides know we love Loog’s beautiful kids’ guitars, and now the company is out with a Kickstarter for its new piano. The company claims it sounds like the real thing and that it’s the only piano at this price ($229 for early backers) with actual dynamics in the keys. Also, it has a USB-C port. More details and a video on the Kickstarter page.

Records were made to be broken.

Closely following the theatrical release of Taylor Swift’s concert film for her Eras Tour that broke presale records, Beyoncé announced Renaissance, a film experience captured during her 2023 tour at the tour’s final stop in Kansas City. It’s appearing in theaters starting on December 1st.

The AMC website is already showing a queue to buy tickets.

Spotify just increased prices, but you might want to get ready for more.

I get the sense that Robert Kyncl, the CEO of Warner Music Group, feels there’s room for the price of music streaming services to go up.

Is a tax surprise the worst surprise?

Alert — if you resold your Taylor Swift tickets you bought on Ticketmaster, you may be on the hook for the profits. Ticketmaster has turned your info over to the IRS already, thanks to a new law, and:

The average price for Taylor Swift tickets sold in the U.S. on StubHub was $1,095, with the best seats going for thousands of dollars, according to the company, which operates an online market for people to resell and buy tickets.

Also, the number of fan resellers skyrocketed.

How do you do, fellow kids?

NPR reports that the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, which has been on the meme train for years, has released an album called We’re Safety Now Haven’t We.

Its seven tracks remind you to wear a helmet, not to look at your phone while walking, and uh, not to shoot fireworks at other people.

Honestly, they’re kind of bops? Is that what you say? Sorry, I’m 40.

Swifties need your help to solve 33 million Google puzzles.

Typing “Taylor Swift” into Google’s search engine will currently reveal a blue vault containing 89 puzzles — a reference to the singer’s new album “1989 (Taylor’s Version).”

The vault will be unlocked when 33 million puzzles have been collectively solved, but its “prize” contents still remain a mystery. Given the size of Swift’s fanbase, I’m shocked Google Search is still functional.
