8BitDo’s Ultimate 2 controller with anti-drift sticks now supports the Switch.

After launching the Ultimate 2 controller last February with TMR joysticks and support for Windows and Android devices, 8BitDo has released a new version compatible with the Switch.

The $69.99 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth controller, available in white or black, is functionally the same as the original (which also supported Bluetooth) but now plays nice with Nintendo’s portable console and features an alternate button label layout for Switch gamers.

Canada’s Switch 2 preorders might go live on April 23rd.

That’s according to billbil-kun, who digs up unannounced information about games.

Nintendo delayed its planned April 9th preorders to “align with the timing” of the also-delayed US preorders.

It’s dangerous to go alone. Play this.

You’ll already find the soundtracks for A Link to the Past, The Wind Waker, Ocarina of Time, and Breath of the Wild on the Nintendo Music app. But this week Nintendo has finally added music from Link’s first Hyrule adventure on the NES, composed by the legendary Koji Kondo.

There are 12 tracks from The Legend of Zelda, but also 12 alternate versions from the Japanese Famicom Disk System version which are definitely worth a listen.

Nintendo still hasn’t said when Switch 2 US preorders start.

Despite now-corrected articles about Switch 2 preorders, Nintendo of America’s Charlie Scibetta confirms to The Verge that nothing has changed since its April 4th statement, which reads:

Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.

Three more Sega Genesis games have been added to the Switch.

Looking for a way to vent some frustrations this weekend? Nintendo has added the classic 1991 beat ‘em up Streets of Rage to the Switch Online Expansion Pack so you can help rescue Wood Oak City from Mr. X’s criminal organization.

Also added today are 1988’s helicopter-based shoot ‘em up Super Thunder Blade, and the side-scroller ESWAT: City Under Siege that originally debuted on the Genesis in 1990.

Yup.

Our colleagues at Polygon are calling out Nintendo for its obnoxiously wordy naming conventions for some Switch 2 games. We are inclined to agree.

Uncle Reggie coming in with the shaaade.

There’s been much consternation over why Nintendo is charging (even if it’s only $10) for Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour instead of making it a pack-in game. So much so that former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Amié felt the need to subtly chime in.

On X he posted several clips talking about how he championed the idea to include Wii Sports with the system over the objections of Nintendo director Shigeru Miyamoto. We’ll let you listen for yourself how that turned out.

I still can’t believe the Nintendo Switch 2 has a button that only works if you pay.

I’m with Cameron: accessory manufacturers should definitely start selling cases and skins that let us delete the C button from the Nintendo Switch 2.

If Nintendo is seriously going to lock the new Chat button behind a recurring fee in 2026, even turn it into a glorified ad for Nintendo’s subscription (yes, that’s a thing), I will happily pay to make the button disappear. Dbrand, you listening?

Or just let players remap the thing!

The good, the bad, and the Switch 2.

On this week’s Vergecast, I spoke with David, covering the good, the bad, and the painful parts of my hands-on with the Switch 2. Listen to me gush about Donkey Kong Bananza, gripe about the price, and reaffirm just how much the Joy-Con mouse mode plays hell on my shoulders.

Don’t lick a Switch 2 cart.

Like OG Switch carts, they taste bad, Nintendo’s Takuhiro Dohta told GameSpot. “We don’t want anybody to be at risk of any unwanted consumption,” Dohta says. “We have indeed made it so that if it enters your mouth, you’ll spit it out.”

Nintendo confirmed the Switch 2’s top USB-C port doesn’t support video output.

During a Q&A session last week, Switch 2 producer Kouichi Kawamoto confirmed that although the console’s additional USB-C port is compatible with accessories like cameras, it doesn’t support video output, according to GNN News. “The video output of Switch 2 is limited to the USB-C port at the bottom; the USB-C at the top cannot output images.”

Those hoping to use smaller dock alternatives with the Switch propped up on its stand are out of luck.

Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour will cost $9.99.

Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser shared the pricing of the game, which serves as an explainer of the system’s features, in an interview with The Verge.

I personally think it should have been included with the console for free, but a lot of things about the Switch 2 come at a higher price.

Everyone, everywhere, all the time.

With the reveal of the Switch 2, Nintendo’s going all in on the console’s new and improved social features. During the Switch 2 direct presentation, the company showed off the how new “C” button will be used to connect with your friends with voice and video chat. While we didn’t get to test out those features in our hands-on coverage, Nintendo did release a new video that goes into detail on what to expect.

I just got done demoing the Switch 2 and boy are my arms tired.

The Nintendo kicked off its new console generation with a very flashy bang. The Verge had the opportunity to go hands-on with the console, testing out a bunch of games and features revealed during yesterday’s direct presentation. I got to play Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Mario Kart World, a little bit of Breath of the Wild, Donkey Kong Bananza and so much more. Here’s our thoughts.
