The Lumix DMC-GX1 is one of Panasonic's flagship Micro Four Thirds cameras, and it's getting a big firmware upgrade in a couple of weeks. The new software will improve the camera's Auto White Balance functionality, as well as its continuous and flexible autofocus performance. There are a few menu upgrades, too, like adding Step Zoom and Zoom Speed options to the Fn button and the menu. There are a few other minor stability improvements as well, especially when using USH-I compliant memory cards. Panasonic is also updating the Micro Four Thirds-compatible G Vario 100-300mm f/4.0 lens, to improve its image stabilization performance. Both upgrades will be available at the end of this month, and though neither sounds like anything you'll be dying without until then, they should be nice upgrades.

Olympus owners get more immediate satisfaction, but today's update is much more minor: the E-PL3, E-P3, and E-PM1 will now display focal length on the camera when you're using a power zoom lens. The company also announced that its first motorized zoom lens, the M. Zuiko Digital ED 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 EZ will be available on January 27th, so you'll be able to test that new firmware soon.
