Mega Malamar is (not) your friend.

Everything about The Pokémon Company’s “My Friend Malamar” Pokémon Legends Z-A marketing blitz has felt unsettling as hell, but this new video spells it all out pretty clearly: the Dark/Psychic squid monster is using enhanced telepathy to warp people’s minds. Fun!

Can you smell what Mega Hawlucha is cooking?

Dragonite came first, then there was Victreebel, and now Hawlucha has joined the ranks of pokémon who are getting snazzy new Mega Evolution forms when Pokémon Legends: Z-A drops this fall. Sorry to this Machamp.

Pokémon TCG Pocket’s next set has that legendary dog trio in it.

The jury is still out on whether Entei, Suicune, and Raikou are based on cats or dogs, but the trio of legendary beasts are definitely the headliners for Secluded Springs, Pokémon TCG Pockets latest set that’s dropping on August 28th.

Does Silent Hill have a gym leader?

Horror survival has never really been the Pokemon franchise’s vibe, but Nintendo is teasing something about Legends Z-A that looks very Silent Hill-y.

Pokécon.

We knew next year’s Pokémon World Championships would be taking place in San Francisco, but it turns out that the city will also be hosting the first Pokémon XP, a new Pokémon-themed convention that you’ll be able to buy tickets for beginning next month.

A wild Miraidon appeared.

The Toyota Engineering Society’s Miraidon Project — a life-size version of the motorcycle-like legendary pokémon Miraidon, the mascot of Pokémon Violet — is on display at the 2025 Pokémon World Championships in Anaheim, California. I’m still hoping to see it actually move at some point in the future, but seeing such a precise and detailed re-creation of Miraidon in person was pretty rad.

Honda’s Pokémon Koraidon motorcycle finally hits the racetrack.

After first revealing the prototype last March, Honda has finally demonstrated its Koraidon motorcycle, based on one of the mascots from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, in motion at Japan’s Suzuka Circuit.

Koraidon moves its four legs in a galloping motion while leisurely rolling down the track, but its tires don’t spin. Its balance is assisted by a pair of wheeled kickstands, and while there’s room for a passenger, its moving limbs may make for an uncomfortable ride.

Before Kalos, let’s make a quick pitstop in Johto.

When Pokémon Legends: Z-A drops in October, everyone is going to be fawning over the franchise’s updated Kalos region. But Pokémon TCG Pocket’s next set — Wisdom of Sea and Sky — is going to be all about monsters from the Johto region, and it looks like the expansion will introduce to some interesting new gameplay mechanics like attacks that don’t require energy when it releases on July 30th.

A Pokémon Presents, you say?

Just a reminder: preorders for physical copies of Pokémon Legends: Z-A start on July 23rd, and on July 22nd, there’s going to be a new Pokémon Presents stream that’s probably going to reveal a bit more information about the game.

Eeveelutions are taking over Pokémon TCG Pocket.

Just when you thought your hourglasses were safe, Pokémon TCG Pocket has announced a new Eevee-themed expansion that’s scheduled to release on June 26th and seems like it’s going to take a few cues from some of the physical card game’s most sought-after sets.

While the next big Pokémon game won’t be releasing until later this year, Nintendo’s Japanese site says that we can expect to see Scarlet and Violet getting their long-awaited patches that will improve the games’ frame rates, visuals, and draw distances on June 5 just in time for the Switch 2’s big debut.

Gotta sketch ‘em all.

IGN has a great interview with Chris Maple, the designer who created the iconic Pokémon logo. The whole article is worth a read, but there’s also a mystery: if you happen to have any details about Nintendos’ “crystal horse head,” make sure to hit up the author.

This new Pokémon merch is trash (complimentary).

As Siliconera points out, the Pokémon Center in Japan just released a batch of fun household goods, ranging from a Bulbasaur planter to a Mimikyu mirror. My favorite, though, is this garbage can that actually makes Trubbish seem useful.

Honda shows off its wheely cool Koraidon motorcycle.

Following the Miraidon project created by Toyota last year, both of the legendary mascots from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have now been brought to life. The life-size Koraidon prototype is on display until Sunday at Tokyo’s Honda Aoyama Building. Its legs can actually move to imitate how the Pokémon runs in-game! The bike is only for show right now, but may be moving by this summer at a leisurely 6 mph.

Mega evolution is on the Horizon.

Pokémon Horizons wasn’t a big part of today’s Pokémon Presents showcase, but The Pokémon Company is teasing Mega Evolution becoming part of the series, which makes it seem like Liko and Roy might be making a trip to Lumiose City.

Pokémon Unite is leveling up with Alola’s coolest monster.

Pokémon Unite has been teasing Suicune’s addition to its roster for a little while now, but this year’s Pokémon Presents showcase, The Pokémon Company revealed that the Gen II legendary isn’t the only heave hitter coming to the game. Following Suicune’s debut on March 1st, Pokémon Unite will add Alolan Raichu (arguably the sickest pokémon to date) in April, and Alcremie (a monster made of berries and cream) some time later this year.

Pokémon Sleep with a dash of nightmares.

The sleep-tracking game’s next update (which comes out in March) has an oddly dark tone, and players will somehow have to push back against the nightmare-inducing powers of Darkrai. Sweet dreams!

I don’t play Pokémon Café but...

I kind of want to after seeing this new apple pie drink that puts Starbucks to shame. The apple-themed event kicks off in-game tomorrow and runs through March 14th.
